Also, getting an invitation to sit at the table signifies that the ownership of said table belongs to those in power. That invitation can be rescinded if & when you don’t serve those maintaining the status quo. This work requires sacrificing self for the good of the disadvantaged
Jairo I. Fúnez-Flores@Jairo_I_Funez

I repeat, demanding a seat at the table isn't radical transformation or decolonization/decoloniality. It's the desire to be recognized by those in power. It's the Iiberal notion of individual success, which will always render structural change unnecessary and unrealistic.

Wow! It's been one month since we lost you. While it feels like you are still here and I've been dreaming the last month, it somehow also feels like an eternity. RIP Dad.

Surya Bonaly will forever be the undefeated Ice Queen. Blatant discrimination in 1993 caused her to lose a much deserved win to Oksana. She protested in 1994 as she was again cheated out of a win and refused to stand on the podium, a brave move for an athlete. In 1998, she left the public frozen and etched her name in history when she performed a forbidden somersault. This was a blatant "fu*k you" to the Olympic judges as the injured Bonaly did an illegal backflip landing on one blade.Although that kept her forever away from winning a gold medal, her style was never duplicated and for that she remains undefeated..

Black History is not just about the past—it's about how we care for ourselves today. Mental health IS part of our legacy. This Black History Month, let's honor not just resilience, but rest, healing, and growth. Your mind matters. Your peace matters. You matter.

This past weekend, I was invited to perform at Goatchella. I didn’t know that this was a thing, and it was definitely a unique experience for a Scarborough kid!

By not connecting the historical imp of pink shirt day to *specifically* standing up against transphobia, misogyny, biphobia, & homophobia, we’re glossing over specifically what this day is all about. It’s specifically about standing up against anti-LGBTQ+ & anti-women hate.
