Uphill battle. Luckily they play a beneficial schedule. With 13 games left- 8vs direct competition around them for WC/ DIV3 spots, 2 games against opponents w/ 90+ points, 2 games against opponents w/ 70- points, 1 against NJD.
~20% isn’t a miracle but they need REGULATION wins.

The #Flyers are 5 points behind 2 teams for 3rd place in their division & have 6 teams ahead of them for the conference's 2 wild-card spots. @hockey_ref gives them a 19.6% chance of making the playoffs. Let's keep it real. They don't need a hot streak. They need a minor miracle.

@Anth_Chatburn I don’t hate the attempt. I will hate an inability to adjust. I disagree with Charlie’s “not everyone expected this in SEPTEMBER.” Then most signed right away. There had to have been posturing all summer about it.
If UFA signings (Jones said maybe TWO) was ~the~ plan, it’s bad.

The Flyers NEED to make the playoffs for two reasons at this point 1) Having only like six games of Porter Martone this year would suck 2) Getting boat-raced by Buffalo, Tampa, or Carolina in the first round will show the front office how far away they truly are from contending

@Anth_Chatburn Does it require adjustment? Sure. Did it change this UFA class that much? I don’t buy it. It probably would’ve been harder to re-sign the big names, but all those teams would’ve figured it out. The attempt to poach a superstar was a gamble.

@JCStarbuck3 They didn’t even necessarily go way above the perceived contract value. I don’t think any of that FA crop are “highly overpaid” contracts and considering the cap spike they’re even better. It just cleared up the 2026-2028 seasons.

@Bennett_CK All of those long term contracts are assuming that TV money stays the same or increases. If the US economy takes a real dive, certainly a possibility, those contracts may become liabilities.

@vindawg98 It's literally my job to talk to people in the game and I can tell you back in September, it certainly was not the case that "everyone and their mother" in hockey circles knew that all the projected big-name UFAs would re-sign lol.

@DR3Wheels It’s not good. Lol. The team isn’t very good either. But a hard fought playoff series with 4-5 OT games is a far cry from being embarrassed considering they ~should~ get walked by most of these other teams.
Tampa will obliterate them for instance.

Porter Martone is an exceptional hockey player. Will be a consistent 80-90 point player in his own right
But he is comfortably worse than Michkov is, and will be for the next 20 years of their respective careers
