1/6 To my students: The problem with the SAE levels (0-5) is that these are simply engineering targets, not products to buy. Whenever engineers define a system, you have to target a perfect level. A perfect score. A goal to aim for.

@EndOfDriving WHY? Bec of aging population. Pets keep company, but elderly can't walk them as readily. So the concept makes sense, but I am doubtful of the realization. Kinda glad I am not a dog, after all.

Innovation accelerators like @CITM_Canada help commercialize technology solutions AND support organizations like #UrbanRoboticsFoundation as we develop global standards for #sidewalk #robots. Thank you!
Centre for Integrated Transportation and Mobility@CITM_Canada

Our ecosystem is extensive and growing with innovators not only advancing #smartmobility solutions but also defining and creating guidelines and standards for their deployment worldwide. #CITMinnovator #UrbanRoboticsFoundation is one example: urbanroboticsfoundation.org #standards

@JN_Seattle @levkushner @Greg_Lindsay @CityLab Thanks for this John. Very insightful. A lot to chew on. I think there’s more to the unfolding story, but there’s a lot here. There are likely secondary effects on automotive traffic depending on how these deliveries are made and that is what is difficult to project.

Only 1 lobbyist? Really? Isn’t that beneath the threshold of caution that Toronto Council normally takes? Luckily for council this is a tiny business that may be unable to afford legal help. Easily crushed. But next year when an Uber or Amazon arrives, then what? @kristynwongtam
Quantum Robotic Systems@QRSRobotics

@kristynwongtam Committee's concerns are already addressed by safety standards (e.g., urbanroboticsfoundation.org), yet zero input from #robotics community sought. Decision based entirely on one lobbyist's opinion. What's going on? @DavidZuraCityTV @BradMBradford @JohnTory @TransitLeap @tiny_mile

@kristynwongtam urbanroboticsfoundation.org was set up to help cities coordinate their robotics policies, especially for sidewalk robotics in order to avoid conflicts like this. Most of the comments here are empathetic to innovation that might help our goods mobility problems. That is heartening.

Sidewalks are a public resource created for safe pedestrian use. Infrastructure & Environment Committee voted to ban “Micro-Utility Devices” or robots from operating or parking on Toronto sidewalks, footpaths, bike lanes & cycle tracks. app.toronto.ca/tmmis/viewAgen… #IDPWD2021
