@RichDecibels Fantastic list, nice wording! I am reminded of indigenous collaboration and the importance of rituals that affirm shared values- how we are all equally (stupid), planetary connected, learning etc.

can I check something? I’m writing a big list that describes my idea of “the best possible team to work in” can you take a look and point out anything that doesn’t sound appealing to you, or anything I missed?

This is a mind-blowing announcement. Mistral AI, the French company that has been fighting tooth and nail to water down the #AIAct's foundation model rules, is partnering up with Microsoft. So much for 'give us a fighting chance against Big Tech'. A 🧵1/8 azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/mic…

1️⃣ Events play a crucial role in stabilizing a collaborative climate. Large, centrally organized ones like retreats, conferences or hackathons, as well as emergent, bottom-up meetups, breakfasts or running groups and yoga sessions.

From research, we know that such a buzz typically soars like a rocket and then collapses equally fast. Much like a social movement. @drozas and I were puzzled: How can we maintain 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 collaboration? Our takeaways:

🌈🤝 Everybody who has been part of a buzzing coworking space, incubator, or online community knows the sensation: Inspiration, support, aliveness - a special spirit of potentiality is in the air.

⚠️If you want to stay sane, curate your Twitter timeline (in 4 papers): 1) Bad emotions are contagious in social media 2) If you see false info enough, you start to believe it 3) Algorithms that maximize for engagement maximize conflict 4) The opinions here aren’t representative

Striking numbers: The WGA is asking for writers collectively to be paid roughly $429 million more a year, in an industry that made $28 billion in operating profit and paid eight major CEOs a combined $773 million in 2021.

The more I work with ChatGPT4, the less I think it is "doing thinking" and the more I think people are just "doing language" and not thinking for themselves. In other words, "thinking for oneself" has to have something to do with that which is "not language."

This paper looks at 50 years of hockey data to show a neat example of how work practices can spread. When Russian players were allowed to play for NHL teams in 1989, they had a very different play style, based on elegant skating rather than aggression. 🇺🇸& 🇨🇦 players adopted it.
