One of the many tragedies of this war is that before the war began the U.S. Intel Community, including CIA, was in agreement that Iran wasn't developing a nuclear weapon & that Iran would target U.S. bases in the region & shut down the Strait of Hormuz if they were attacked by Israel & the U.S.
The IC also properly assessed that targeting the Iranian leadership would strengthen the regime and embolden the hardliners.
Despite the professionalism & accuracy of the IC, the narrative & agenda spun by a foreign government- Israel, won the argument & forced us into this war.
We need to understand exactly how this happened to ensure we are never put in this position again.

On Monday Marco Rubio said that we cannot allow Iran to have control over the strait of Hormuz, picking and choosing who enters and what currency they use.
There is a very important reason why the administration feels this way: because it would be the greatest military defeat in US history.
We lost in Vietnam and Afghanistan in a sense but never like this. If we leave now with the new status quo being Iran controls the strait then we have transformed a relegated, isolated, sanction crippled nation into a global power.
Leaving now is an admission of a tremendous defeat and it’s also the best possible thing to do.
This is the trap that Trump is now in all because he listened to Netanyahu and launched the insane war of choice.

Pre JCPOA is ancient history and irrelevant. JCPOA was only "temporary" because Trump blew up the treaty. It did not address infrastructure, missiles, or terror, because that was not its purpose, and Iran was not willing to negotiate those things.
Whatever "reversed enrichment" might mean, we're still stuck there after five weeks, when we could have simply left the treaty in place, preventing enrichment.

You're playing word games but not denying anything I said, which you know to be correct.
"Trump max pressure" means allowing Iran to enrich uranium, then spending billions dropping bombs and messing up the world oil market to no purpose, mumbling about enriched uranium but not removing it or destroying it.
"Appeasement" meant preventing Iran from enriching it in the first place.
You may get a dirty little thrill from the "pressure," but it's not the course that actually succeeded.

This stat is fake. It’s based on an absurd categorization scheme by partisan organizations.
But I want to make a broader point: I, and other people with a lot of training and bandwidth, can sort through the minefield of nonsense that is published statistics and academic discourse and separate the useful bits from the ideologically motivated lying. But most people can’t. They don’t have the training. They don’t have the time.
So how are they making a mistake by just writing off the entire establishment? Within their compute constraints, why is that not a better heuristic? Could you write a program that fits in their brains that leads to higher net-locally-consequential truth?

Iran never had nuclear weapons. Iran never had a program to develop nuclear weapons. Our entire intel community, 18 agencies as I recall, was and is unanimous on this. They did nothing to "hold the world hostage" to anything. Funny you should mention North Korea, which developed nuclear weapons during Trump's presidency without his feeling the need to bomb the hell out of them or even to raise his voice.
