Remember: NO legitimate government agency, law enforcement officer, tech company, or business will ever ask you to pay using Bitcoin. Scammers often: • Tell you to stay on the phone while you go to the ATM • Tell you not to tell anyone about the situation • Say they will “confirm the payment” once the Bitcoin is sent • Provide the exact location of a nearby Bitcoin ATM Once money is sent through Bitcoin, it is extremely difficult to recover. Victims are often pressured to send additional payments and scammers may continue contacting them for more money. Protect Yourself • Hang up immediately if someone asks for a Bitcoin payment • Talk to a trusted family member or friend before making any out-of-the-ordinary transaction • Contact the organization directly using an official phone number If you believe you are being targeted or have already sent money, contact your local law enforcement agency immediately.
