A viral video showed highschool kids unable to sound out words like “extraordinary” and “silhouette.” ~25% of 16-24-year-olds qualify as “functionally illiterate.” They read below a 5th grade level. This can change, but we have to go back to the basics. One, parents have to read to their kids - no excuses. Two, we have to teach our kids phonics, not the exclusive “context clue” method we’ve tried and failed for decades. Here are my two “whys” for ensuring our kids read well: 1. They’ll be lost in every way without it. 2. It’s our Christian obligation to do so.

@megbasham @Altard_State I am thrilled to know I am not the only mom who says clothes are hoochie 🤣. I’ve never thought they were truly Christian based on the immodesty of their clothing.

I really don’t understand @Altard_State. It’s supposed to be a Christian company—they play Christian music in the stores and sell all of this Christian-branded merchandise—and yet their clothes are as hoochie, if not hoochier, than anything I see at nonChristian retailers! It’s kind of the opposite of a good witness.

@MissyPurcell @0Beanie05923291 I really loved when Amplify lied on their marketing emails about CKLA saying Louisa Moats “consulted” on it. I emailed her to see why she allegedly endorsed it. She spent 10 minutes on the phone with them 10 yrs prior. She had no idea they were using her name. They have no shame

One of the most frustrating parts of education reform is the seemingly impenetrable dome that keeps the small-scale, but highly-effective curriculum out of the running in so many states. It’s almost like there’s an aversion to simple, effective, and inexpensive curriculum.

I wasn’t classically educated. I wasn’t trained to teach as a classical educator. My four children didn’t attend classical schools. I only learned the principles and practices of classical education in the past few years. I 100% believe it is the superior form of education and that it should be an option for all parents who desire it for their children.

What if everyone is actually destined for hell? When Christian Apologist Wesley Huff joined me on The Diary Of A CEO, he explained a central idea in Christianity that many people misunderstand. According to scripture, the standard for being “good” isn’t simply being better than other people. The standard is God himself. Which means, by definition, no human being meets it. That’s what Christianity calls the bad news. Humanity can’t save itself through good actions or intentions. Here's him breaking it down

@jaredhmoore Excellent! Well done! My daughter just turned in her first draft at her classical Christian school today. Praying these kids are the leaders of the future! They continue to blow my mind. Classical Christian education is the best decision we ever made.

My son is a Senior in high school at Hickory Classical Christian School in Cookeville, TN. He turned in his senior thesis today. I have a PhD but he didn’t even ask me for help. He wrote it entirely on his own. I haven’t even read it yet, but his school posted quotes. I’m proud of him! He’s 100% right!

@alt_w_v_g Actually, schools intentionally dumb down your kid. Personal experience. Your wife was me trying to make my kid seem normal. He’s not. Put him in an environment that doesn’t constantly fight against his curiosity. If you don’t, it will kill his curiosity and love of learning.

Had a parent-teacher conference this morning My wife told me not to come I came anyway She said "please just listen and nod" I said "I always listen" She said "you listen like you're sitting in a boardroom looking for something to challenge" That's how listening works Nice classroom Small chairs I am 6'4" and was seated at a desk designed for someone who still believes in Santa Claus My knees touched my chest The teacher introduced herself Shared her identified pronouns I shared my identified adjectives Smart and handsome My wife closed her eyes The teacher had a folder Color-coded tabs I respected the organization She said our son is "a pleasure to have in class" My wife smiled I waited That sentence is never the whole report It's the executive summary before the risk section She said "however" There it is She said he "asks a lot of questions" I said "good" She said "during quiet time" I said "when is quiet time?" She said "it's when students are expected to work independently and in silence" I said "so he's the only one trying to get information and you've structured the environment to prevent it?" My wife put her hand on my arm I continued The teacher said he recently told another student that "sharing pencils doesn't make sense if nobody brings their own" I said "that's an accurate observation" My wife squeezed harder The teacher said she's concerned about his "resistance to group activities" I said "he's not resistant. He just doesn't see the value of doing more work for the same grade." The teacher said he also corrected her math on the whiteboard I said "was he right?" She paused She said "that's not the point" I said "it's a little bit the point" My wife stood up Sat back down Compromise The teacher pulled out an evaluation sheet Categories like "works well with others" and "follows directions" and "respects classroom norms" All subjective Not a number on the page I asked how these are graded She said "based on observation" I said "so one person's opinion with no second review?" She said "it's professional judgment" I said "my auditors say that too. Right before I disagree with them." She looked at my wife My wife said "I'm sorry about him" I said "I'm sitting right here" My wife said "I know" The teacher said overall he's a bright kid and she just wants to make sure he learns to "collaborate" I said "collaboration is important. But so is recognizing when you're the only one doing the work. He'll learn that again in college. And again in the real world. Might as well start now." Nobody spoke The teacher closed her folder She said "I think we've covered everything" I said "one more thing" She braced herself I said "his reading is above grade level. His math is strong. He asks hard questions and corrects mistakes when he sees them. I just want to make sure this school knows what it has." The teacher looked at me differently My wife looked at me differently I said "that's all" We left In the car my wife was quiet Then she said "he's turning into you" I said "is that a good thing?" She didn't answer From the backseat he said "dad, why does the teacher count off for asking questions? Isn't that the whole point of school?" I looked at my wife She looked out the window I said "yes. It is." He said "I don't think she likes when I'm right" I didn't say anything Neither did my wife Small chairs Color-coded tabs No follow-up items But the kid's going to be fine Sent from my iPhone

@SenatorTimScott With all due respect, our infrastructure sucks. The homes being built are sub par and are ugly. Let’s stop the mass migration to SC instead. Clearly, no one has leaned a lesson from other states that made it so attractive that we lose our culture and our land.

@MrDanielBuck @JeremyTate41 The truth is that parents don’t care enough yet bc they are blind to it bc of convenience, sports, friends, etc. The ones that speak up are cast out/alienated by administrators & educators. I’ve been screaming off the rooftops/advocating for a decade. Classical Ed was our way out

@DavidAFrench @lipscomb Why do you continue to allow this wolf to shepherd kids at our university? As an alum, you must excise this lukewarm theology from your midst. This goes completely against the Church of Christ I grew up in. Our kids are at stake!

If the primary American divide is between right and left, then Talarico isn’t that interesting. There’s a long history of progressive religious activism in the United States, just as there is a long history of conservative religious activism. Yet if the primary American divide is between decent and indecent, then the equation changes. Talarico shines. nytimes.com/2026/03/08/opi…

This story is important. This private Christian prep school, Lipscomb Academy, hired a Head of School who reportedly wrote a woke DEI dissertation. Families there are mostly conservative Christians. The full story shows how wokeness infiltrates Christian schools. Link: thefederalist.com/2026/02/27/par… This head of school needs to be fired and their parent school @lipscomb university should be VERY cautious about what they do. They receive federal funds and any sniff that they’re engaged in DEI could mean eliminating all federal funds… Great reporting @FDRLST 👀

I-Ready (owned by Berkshire Partners & Permira) is one of multiple online k-12 curriculums claiming they're 'evidence based' w/out evidence. Their 'evidence' is internal or purchased, eg Random PhD w/a Ted Talk. iReady is dreary, boring, very poorly written, & riddled with DEI topics. But it makes equity firms rich.
missy purcell@MissyPurcell

“And so the rise of i-Ready has mirrored a collapse of US academic achievement. This demands we finally ask: if i-Ready simply doesn’t work, at what point does America’s education establishment cut its losses and declare it digital snake oil — a boondoggle of historic proportions?”

@educator4ever36 Finally! Literacy is a health issue. I see it all the time. Poor health outcomes for those with low literacy skills. Although, schools love to send kids off for a mental health diagnosis when they can’t read even though the reading programs and pedagogy set them up to fail. 😳

I’m actually thrilled the medical community is getting involved in this. We’re needed their help for decades but they seem to shy away from any issue involving learning. The schools can’t do it alone.

JUST IN - Rapid declines in childhood literacy rates across the U.S. are prompting Nationwide Children’s Hospital to begin screening for literacy skills. Nationally, just over 30% of fourth graders are considered proficient in reading, meaning about 70% are incompetent — AP

Really proud to be an alum of @lipscomb with their new dyslexia MEd and EDS in dyslexia therapy. I’ve always said Christians should be on the frontlines of the literacy crisis. People who aren’t taught to read, don’t have access to God’s word.

@yoalexrapz TN is a train wreck. I grew up in that area. My dad is mayor of a neighboring town. Lee has destroyed the state. Natives are having to leave the state bc homes and land are CA prices. We now have a water shortage. No protection of the land or natives. Just $ for CA to take over.

I just got off the phone with one of my surgical oncologists and we got to discussing various new therapies and the Covid vax came up. He made the point that we knew very well that we couldn't predict how some cells would pull in that vaccine. Yet our experts never told us that. And as my doc friend put it, "Now we know that there are some women who will never be able to have children because of the way that vaccine was absorbed into their immune system." He said if they had studied it longer first, they would have figured it out prior to mass distribution. And the medical bureaucrats at NIH knew this, but to them that was just the "cost of doing business." This was not an alternative therapy type guy telling me this but a mainstream, big-system oncologist (with an extensive background in research). They knew. But NIH threatened and cowed all of these medical professionals not to sound the alarm. Yet still, no one has been held accountable.
