First Indian Speaker! Centenary of Vithalbhai Patel (1873-1933) election as legislative assembly speaker marked by a nice stamp issued on 24th Aug @HMOIndia in New Delhi. Sankha Samanta did the art work that also shows Delhi assembly building. #BetterPhila #Stamps25

National flowers! Philippines & India issued new joint stamps on 5th Aug @PMOIndia @bongbongmarcos in New Delhi showing lotus and jasmine flowers in identical designs. Nice thematic topic, good change from dances but not a great design! 2009 far better. #BetterPhila #Stamps25

Queen of pepper! India Post @rashtrapatibhvn dedicated stamp on 24th Jul on Rani Chennabhairadevi, who ruled in 16th century Karnataka (Nagire province). Follower of Jain religion, she fought wars and traded spices with Portuguese. #BetterPhila #Stamps25

Waves of repeat! Many cine stars can be celebrated on stamps but India Post chose to do an encore for all five born in 1925 - P. Bhanumathi (d. 2005), Guru Dutt (d. 1964), Raj Khosla (d. 1991), Ritwik Ghatak (d. 1976) & Salil Chowdhury (d. 1995). Oh well! #BetterPhila #Stamps25

Medical history! Started in July 1924, the medical school in Mysuru KA; Mysore Medical College & Research Institute marked its centennial recently. India Post stamp was dedicated by uni officials on 17th July. Slightly late, but worthy recognition. #BetterPhila #Stamps25

Indian chief minister! Stamp issued on 13 July @rajnathsingh in Lucknow UP on Chandrabhanu Gupta (1902-1980), politician at helm of Uttar Pradesh gov for 4 short terms in 60s. Also active in building educational institutions and in the freedom movement. #BetterPhila #Stamps25

Maldives & India - traditional boats! Joint stamps showing Uru & Vadhu Dhoni boats was issued @PMOIndia @MMuizzu in Male on 25th July. Nice collab but I’d like to see creative artwork with fishing, fish market scene in selvage. Nice change from dances. #BetterPhila #Stamps25
