This February, during #RareDiseaseMonth, Beyond the Lesson is on view at A. MacArthur Barr Middle School, bringing art and education together to foster understanding, inclusion, and empathy. The exhibit features 15 portraits of children living with rare and life-altering diseases. Through guided engagement, students learn not only about rare conditions, but about the individuals and families behind the diagnoses. At Barr, educators integrated the exhibit into classroom learning, using it as a foundation for reflection, discussion, and student-led projects focused on compassion and awareness. The experience encourages students to think critically, collaborate meaningfully, and better understand differences. #RareDisease #rarediseaseawareness
