@SawyerMerritt The average driver pays less than $100 per year via gas consumption tax. So why should an EV pay more? Why not just charge every car the same annual amount?

U.S. House lawmakers have proposed bipartisan legislation that ‌would require electric vehicles to pay a $130 fee to pay for road repairs annually and $35 for some plug-in hybrid models. The House is working on a five-year highway reauthorization bill expected to ‌cost more than $500 billion ahead of the current law expiration on Sept 30, 2026. Most revenue for federally funded road repairs is collected through diesel and gasoline taxes, which EVs do not pay. I think $130 is fair since over time there will be fewer gas vehicles on the road generating tax revenue, They'll need to make up the difference somewhere so they can keep repairing roads, etc. Full bill text in thread below:

@MarioNawfal I like that pressing the mic button and saying, "save that, save dashcam, or record" saves the last 10 minutes to USB and won't be overwritten.

Every Tesla comes with 8 exterior cameras, observing your surroundings in 360°. Meanwhile, other brands still act like a backup camera deserves a standing ovation in 2026. Dashcam is built in too. No dangling GoPros. No weird windshield gadgets held together with optimism and suction cups. Hit-and-runs. Parking-lot mysteries. “That wasn’t my fault” performances. Tesla quietly logs the episode like security footage from the future. @Tesla

@dratsfoiled @elonmusk @BLKMDL3 My MY with v14.3.2 backs into my garage. It even slightly angles the parking to allow a little extra room to open the driver's door. I thought I would have to put down stripes, but nope.

@elonmusk @BLKMDL3 Please look into letting us set home as a charging destination. It only makes sense since otherwise we’re always taking over on that last approach. This would even be solved for many of us with just allowing us to give a preference for reverse parking in general.

@980Viking @Rothmus Alabama was recently rated higher than CA and NY in math and English scores. You are right about the cost of living. I retired here after 30 years in the Army and zero regrets.

The Alabama one is particularly funny. It is cheap enough in Alabama that you can live nicely at the federal poverty level. Yes, the public schools suck, but they suck everywhere in the country! Alabama helps fix that by being one of the easiest states to homeschool your children in—a total hands-off approach that leads to success stories like the Harding family, who detailed their story in the book “The Brainy Bunch: The Harding Family’s Method to College Ready by Age Twelve.”

@amuse @TexasTribune Very true and I think once the Tesla semi becomes more widely available that will open up opportunities for lots of folks that might not have ever considered truck driving as an occupation.

@TexasTribune The good news is that there are lots of Americans who would love those jobs and to the extent we don't have enough there are lots of self-driving trucks now.

Across the nation, as many as 200,000 immigrant drivers could be pushed out of the trucking industry by the crackdown on commercial driver’s licenses, according to the Department of Transportation — even as the U.S. faces a shortage of up to 80,000 truck drivers. bit.ly/4uEWqgr

@Mrgunsngear I'll bet he was carrying a Glock or other striker fired pistol. Nothing against strikers but I'd bet a lot of negligent discharge and suspect engagements are related to poorly trained cops with adrenaline flowing handling guns that go bang too easily.

@MarioNawfal The Strait will become increasingly less vital as alternative routes are developed and improved. It may take years, but I think the effort will continue regardless even if there is a near-term positive outcome.

🇮🇶🇸🇾 Iraqi oil tankers loaded with crude are pouring into Syria right now through the AlYarubiyah crossing in AlHasakah countryside. Crossing just reopened after 13 years shut and yesterday Iraq sent the first official convoy of 70 tankers. This is Iraq’s workaround: using Syria as a land bridge to the Mediterranean to dodge the messy Strait of Hormuz chaos. Long convoys, real money for both sides, and a whole new route lighting up. @NSTRIKE1231 More likely it's a signal that there simply aren't enough targets left to justify keeping three carriers on station. It's also crucial to overall readiness and OPTEMPO to rest those troops and service the equipment.

🇺🇸🚫🇮🇷 According to The Washington Post, U.S. officials say the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford is expected to leave the Middle East and head back to the United States in the coming days. If confirmed, this could signal that President Trump is stepping away from a potential second phase of military operations against Iran, instead relying on the naval blockade to achieve his objectives. @amuse How did they stop him without shooting him? Did he just trip or something? I haven't seen any videos of the actual takedown. I would have expected him to be full of holes running a gauntlet of SS.

POLITICAL VIOLENCE: There is a gag order on the Secret Service preventing them from talking about whether the agent was shot by friendly fire. It sure appears there were many potential ‘shooters’ who lack basic firearms training. Going through the pictures and videos many agents weren’t holding their firearms correctly and were (as seen in the image below) not even looking in the direction their muzzle was pointed. The entire agency needs to be tested and if necessary retrained in basic firearms handling and safety.

I enhanced the security footage from last nights assassination attempt using AI. The footage was extremely low quality and it seems AI made up some things to fill in the gaps, but gives a better view of what took place.

I’m not sure what to make of 2 lots full of gray Tesla Model Ys in Raleigh, NC in a corner of a huge mall parking lot. It wasn’t until I was leaving that I noticed the other lot near it full of gray Ys also. That’s the picture taken with the trees in the foreground. I did not see any rear or side wiper fluid marks to indicate possible Robotaxi usage. It is odd that they are all one color. 🤔
