If you own an actively managed large-cap mutual fund, you are overpaying for an index fund. The financial industry markets this as active management, but the math reveals it is just closet indexing.
To understand why, you have to look at a metric called Active Share. Active Share measures exactly how much a mutual fund's portfolio differs from its benchmark index. A score of 0% means the fund is an exact replica of the index. A score of 100% means the fund holds completely different stocks.
Academic research has established a clear threshold. If a fund has an Active Share below 60%, it is a "closet indexer." The fund manager charges you a premium fee for active stock selection, but quietly mimics the index to ensure they never severely underperform and lose their job.
The reality of the Indian mutual fund landscape is stark. Out of the top ten large-cap funds, exactly zero cross the 60% active share threshold. Every single one is a closet indexer, with active shares hovering between 28% and 46%. You are paying active fees for a manager to hug the Nifty 100. Not just this, you also pay distribution fees if you take a regular plan. About 2.5% of your AUM, market to market for life!
The mid-cap space is a coin toss. Nearly half of the top ten mid-cap funds fall below the 60% mark. They are taking some bets, but heavily hedging their careers against the Nifty Midcap 150.
True active management only exists in the small-cap category. All ten of the top small-cap funds maintain an active share well above 60%. This is the only space where fund managers are actually doing the work of independent stock selection and deviating significantly from the Nifty Smallcap 250.
The takeaway is straightforward. If you want large-cap exposure, buy a low-cost passive index fund and keep the fees. Reserve your capital for active management only in the small-cap space, where managers are actually taking the active bets you pay them for.

Dearest Railway Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw ji & @RailwaySeva @RailMinIndia Team,
I have posted this in the past. I am asking again and again. This is very very important & needs immediate attention.
Why should a RAC passenger bear full charge for 50% of a side lower seat? Isn't it unfair?
Once the chart is prepared, Railways must refund 50% of the fare with interest for RAC passengers. The same source of payment can be used for the refund.
Pls implement this immediately. I continue to see many ladies and senior citizens who travel by RAC, without sleep and they pay full charge. This is so unfair.
If any of you reading this feel that this should be implemented immediately, comment with your thoughts and share until Railways makes it a fair deal for passengers.
This is long long overdue. I hope at-least this time it is considered and implemented.
On behalf of Indian Passengers,
#FI

@InvestRepeat @bhash It is supposed to be a good scooter company and not a company filing junk patents. (Kodak/Nokia/Sippline@Sharktank..)
English

Today I Learned:
Till April 2025, Bhavish Aggarwal’s @bhash Ola Group had filed ~650 patents.
To put that in context, all 117 Indian unicorns combinedly hold ~229 patents & out of that ~180 belong to Ola alone.

@soicfinance Available to SOIC members? If yes, where to find it in the app?

AI is changing how we screen stocks. I just generated this entire research report on Sambhv Steel Tubes using claude.
drive.google.com/file/d/1Yc2fql…
It’s an incredible tool for scanning interesting businesses, understanding them on a broader scale, and quickly figuring out if the fundamentals are worth your time. A good way to go from 0 to 0.5 on understanding new businesses
If you want to learn how to build these research workflows yourself, we covered all of this in the SOIC AI Masterclass. Link - learn.soic.in/learn/SOIC-Lab…

@Mr_Chartist Why cant you use YFinance? 15 mins late data is okay for most people.

@iMicrocap @manasarora4 Thank you Ayush. 👍💪 And thanks for sharing via git in earlier posts.
English

@BhaskarTrivedi8 @manasarora4 We have roughly 8 hours left on poll and 82 people hve voted of which we have a 91% Yes. If ~100+ yes is there then dont mind doin't a video call also
English

@iMicrocap @manasarora4 Hello Ayush - Thanks for sharing all. You could do Twitter Spaces right here, basically a concall. You dont need to show your face, if thats your preference and its absolutely fine. If you want to help your followers in AI, screen sharing and voice is best (than AMA). Uptoyou. 🙏
English

@manasarora4 Honestly would prefer a Twitter AMA. My experience with video sessions has not been that good. Not a camera person. Also, would make sense to do if at least 100 people as % of total say yes.

@share_market Boss - Dubai to Muscat Buses are straight going to Airport. Also, there are plenty of Taxi Operators offering services from Hatta Border to Muscat Airport. Transportation from Dubai to Muscat is non issue. Current airfares using SalamAir, OmanAir and Air India Express are high.
English

@BhaskarTrivedi8 And is it safe to travel from Dubai to Oman and get the flight from the Muscat?
I guess we also have issues there
And I can see that we might be going to the borders, but after that, we have to travel more till the Muscat right
English

@BhaskarTrivedi8 For how many days Bhaskar G, you have received this visa for?
English

@BhaskarTrivedi8 Hey! haven’t built a Streamlit geospatial app in a long time but if I remember correctly either st.pydeck_chart or the streamlit-folium component display map with points.
Then when you select points, you retrieve back the list to render graphs/metrics/tables
Lmk how it goes! 👀

@andfanilo Your YouTube caption dashboard is so beautiful. 🎈🎈
In my Case, I would love to add a map on right & then let users play by clicking on map. I don't know how would I make points click-able? So, how would I help user click only McDonalds (I have Lat/Long) & not Walmart on a map.

@anishmoonka Hi Anish - Thank you and well done. What about Android PlayStore? Possible to use your guide meant for iStore and then use it for Android PlayStore?

Been quietly documenting how I’m building @10minutegita
Turned it into a PDF playbook:
135 pages, 28 chapters: the practical stuff people only learn mid-build (debugging, auth, App Store, security, scaling, state management, caching, and more)
There’s a free version (3 chapters) if you just want to see the approach.
The full version is intentionally for serious builders only, with 30 day refund, we will send a detailed checklist to all tomorrow.

@DoctorLemma Life Savings of the Bird were destroyed in few moments.
English

In 2009, AT&T California technicians were perplexed when one of their transmission antennas in Central California, USA, suddenly stopped working. When they arrived to investigate, they found the antenna cover bulging. Upon opening it, around 300 pounds (136 kg) of acorns, between 35 to 50 gallons (132 to 189 liters) worth, came pouring out.
The culprit was identified as an acorn woodpecker, a three-ounce (85 gram) bird that had been filling the antenna for an estimated five years. The stash was 1,600 times the bird’s body weight. As soon as the acorns were removed, the signal immediately came back on. Technicians replaced the original cover with a sturdier fiberglass model to prevent future incidents.
