The reported behaviour of the BDO of Mahishadal towards the family members of freedom fighter Satish Chandra Samanta is deeply painful, unfortunate, and completely against the values of a civilised democratic society. Satish Chandra Samanta was not merely a freedom fighter, he was one of Bengal’s greatest sons, a fearless patriot, the head and supreme leader(sarbadhaniyaka) of the Tamralipta National Government, and later served the people as a Member of Parliament from Tamluk constituency as well. I also had the honour of representing the same constituency as a Member of Parliament from Tamluk, and therefore this matter is personally painful and emotionally disturbing to me. The dignity and respect associated with the family of such a legendary personality must never be compromised under any circumstances. If the descendants of a freedom fighter of this stature are subjected to humiliation or harassment inside a government office, it is not only an administrative failure but also an insult to the legacy of India’s freedom movement. Public servants are entrusted with the responsibility to serve citizens with humility, sensitivity, and respect. Arrogance, intimidation, or misconduct towards ordinary citizens is unacceptable, but such behaviour towards the family of a man who sacrificed his life for the nation is beyond condemnation. I strongly urge the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal to personally look into this matter and ensure that appropriate action is taken at the earliest. Such incidents should never be allowed to repeat in Bengal. Tomorrow, I shall personally visit the residence of the family members of Satish Chandra Samanta to express solidarity and seek forgiveness on behalf of society and the administration, because no family connected to a freedom fighter of this level should ever have to endure such humiliation and harassment. The people of Bengal will always stand with those who carried the spirit of India’s freedom struggle on their shoulders. An eventful first day at Nabanna as the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Today, we transformed promises into action. Chaired the first Cabinet Meeting and took 6 landmark decisions to reclaim the glory of our State:- 1) Ayushman Bharat: Finally, the people of West Bengal will receive the benefits of the Hon'ble PM’s flagship health care scheme. 2) Securing Borders: Ensured the immediate transfer of land to the BSF for Border Fencing, which is to be completed within 45 days. 3) Empowering Youth: As promised in the Manifesto, increased the age limit for State Government job seekers by 5 years to support those who lost precious time during the previous regime. 4) Re-established the Constitutional Modalities: Officially implemented the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and gave the green light for the Census to ensure proper representation. 5) Justice for Martyrs: Taken steps for the fulfillment of commitment towards the well-being of the 321 families who lost their loved ones while standing for democracy in West Bengal. 6) Removing obstruction for the implementation of Central Government Schemes - Paving way for smooth implementation of Central Government Schemes like PM Vishwakarma, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, PM Ujjwala 3 etc... Is the fate of Democracy being handed over to CONTRACTUAL WORKERS? It is a matter of grave concern and a direct assault on the sanctity of the democratic process. I am appalled to see the Counting Orders issued for 227-Pingla AC and 230-Daspur AC, where a significant number of Contractual and Casual Employees have been deployed for critical counting duties. How can "Jibika Sebaks," "Sahayaks," and "Contractual DEOs" be entrusted with the sensitive task of handling EVMs, VVPATs, and Postal Ballots? These positions are inherently vulnerable to political pressure and lack the institutional accountability required for a process as sacred as the counting of votes. The orders reveal a shocking reliance on non-permanent staff for high-stakes roles: * Pingla AC (227): Contractual staff like Bipalendu Bera (JS), Sankar Pahari (JS), and Naba Kumar Apik (BLS) are embedded in the Counting and Compilation teams. Even the "Reserve Tagging" involves staff like Swapan Middya (BLAAA). * Daspur AC (230): The order is littered with Sahayaks, VLEs, and Contractual DEOs across the Compilation Team, EVM Movement, and even the Sealing of EVMs/VVPATs. The Hon'ble Chief Election Commissioner and the Hon'ble Chief Electoral Officer (CEO); West Bengal, must intervene immediately, so that these orders are revised to ensure that only permanent, regular Government Employees are involved in the Counting Process to maintain neutrality. Why were these names cleared in the first place? This looks like a desperate attempt by the ruling dispensation to manipulate the final mandate through vulnerable personnel. A thorough audit of all counting personnel across Paschim Medinipur district must be conducted to weed out any "Para-staff" or Contractual Workers from the Counting Halls. The Election Commission of India must act to prevent the "Contractualization of Democracy." We will not allow the Mandate of the People to be tampered with by those whose jobs depend on the whims of the ruling party. @ECISVEEP @CEOWestBengal
