@CptHastings1916 They'd elicit a more favourable response from me if the cartoon they used to promote the issue wasn't so grotesque

It's amazing how much media energy is devoted to encouraging people to ruin their own lives and those of their families in pursuit of some chimaera of self-discovery or self-actualisation.

@Epiousion_ @cermait1991 @thomasforth Yes Ireland experienced rolling famines every 15-30 years for nearly 200 years while the south of england experienced none because these things just happen to Ireland, no reason to assume there is any causality there! You are a total retard.

@cermait1991 @thomasforth Famines happened the world over until 1980. Being the wealthiest country in the world in 1840s means nothing

@Epiousion_ @thomasforth You're an idiot britlicker who doesn't know his own history and dances for likes from foreigners in the Internet. Go and look into British economic policy towards Ireland from 1700 onwards and you might get an idea as to why there were so many disastrous famines.

@thomasforth @ForfarshireUK If you wanted the union to work you would have to go all the way back to 1600 and find a way of doing a deal with the earls rather than causing them to flee. That's the reason why any parallels with scotland fail. Scotland was coerced yes, by Ireland was conquered.

@ForfarshireUK I don't think 1800 was too late. Even as late as 1879 I think the Union was still salvageable.

@thomasforth As an irishman: complete fantasy. There was other great famines in 1700s no one talks about, and the 1840s couldn't be avoided. Any serious historian knows that it wasn't "the brits" that caused the famine. Catholic identity was also too powerful for Ireland to ever stay in UK

@MallyB30725 @thomasforth @nouveaucolonial Few places in the late 19th century were as industrialized as the black country or the north of England, Ulster still punched well above its weight in terms of industrial output in that era even compared to the above nevermind there places in Europe

@RGRV101 @thomasforth @nouveaucolonial Impacted the south too mind. Lots of focus on the famine as a driver of underpopulation and not the century of economic disaster which drove emigration.

@RGRV101 @thomasforth @nouveaucolonial Partition, and subsequently the troubles, impacted the north both in terms of population growth and especially economic growth, which is an underlying driver of pop growth. You can't lop off a huge section of your hinterland and come unscathed

@thomasforth @nouveaucolonial Ireland didn't industrialise in the same way England did. Mainly down to coal not being as abundant or it being harder to extract.

@BichTuff Both ISIS and Al Qaeda had no beef with Israel. Jihadis will jihad no matter what. Whilst Israel is there though, Muslims will attack it because they hate Jews.

@admcollingwood Amazing how Jews and Christians come together to push back on jihadi expansionism and proxy warfare. The man speaking has long had Crusader tattoos on his chest. They read Deus Vult. He knows his role in history and is playing it with gusto... What is YOUR role in history?

@kevinf567 @arisroussinos Israel is a rogue state that brings nothing but instability to the ME, you don't traditionally become allies with countries that constantly work against your interests

@danzwku @bonchieredstate Modern Chinese regime is more "Celestial" in its makeup than the Republican government it replaced. Educated Mandarin caste headed by an emperor administrating society and deriving legitimacy from effective governance rather than the people? Is that the CCP or the Qing?

@bonchieredstate The current 🇨🇳 "Chinese" regime is not part of a 5000 year old civilization. It's a 77-year-old Soviet-inspired occupation that systematically dismantled that civilization during the Cultural Revolution.

The current Iranian regime is not part of a 6000 year old civilization. It’s a 47-year-old colonial government that forced its Islamism on that civilization.
