@SpawnWaveMedia I have not complaints - I played Indiana Jones on Luna and there was no single issue. It was even easier to connect a controller than on steam. Great gaming experience. Great for games were input lag would not matter.

Was checking out Luna just to see where Cloud Streaming is currently and I'm surprised it isn't talked about more for people who already have Amazon Prime.

It’s a visible warning shot — a preview of what a permanent exit in 2028 looks like — not an attempt to bankrupt them in seven days. Short and focused maximizes real participation. Longer just dilutes the signal and makes it easier to ignore. Many of us also still want to support physical games; sitting out forever risks proving their point that discs aren’t worth it. This is about sending a clear, measurable message that we won’t quietly accept losing ownership and physical media. Beyond complaining online. If you care about that too, join the blackout.

Can someone who liked the Odyssey movie [as a sort of Christian reworking of Homer] explain why Nolan's Odysseus is justified in killing the suitors, though he has just confessed his guilt regarding the deaths he has caused by his violation of xenia?

@VIKRonin @FCExplained I’ve only seen the movie once and cant remeber every line - can you?, but Polyphem stepping into the ocean makes it clear Poseidon knows. Still, the desecration of the temples in Troy is way more important for the Odyssey’s context.

Nolan’s The Odyssey is such a disappointing adaptation. Homer’s epic is about xenia (hospitality), piety, homecoming, and the hard-earned wisdom that comes from humility. Nolan strips away much of that moral and divine framework, reducing the story to another brooding survival epic. He sidelines the gods, removes the divine council on Olympus, cuts the Phaeacians and Nausicaa, omits Odysseus’ reunion with his father Laertes, replaces Penelope’s ingenious test of the immovable bed, and even removes the famous “Nobody” deception that perfectly encapsulates Odysseus’ intelligence before his fatal moment of hubris, among others. He then adds characters and ideas borrowed from outside Homer, like Sinon from the Aeneid, and reshapes Odysseus from the endlessly resourceful, intelligent, hubristic and charismatic leader into yet another emotionally distant guilt-ridden Nolan protagonist. In doing so, he fundamentally misunderstood the complexity of Homer’s characters and created a story where the gods cease to be active participants in a world governed by divine justice. The result is a film that doesn’t capture the scale, beauty, meaning and themes of The Odyssey while also losing its soul. Homer wrote one of the richest character studies and moral epics ever created. Nolan butchered it.

@VIKRonin @FCExplained why is it jammed? Polyphem went into the oceaon following Odysseus because he stabbed him - reason Poseidon probably knows. Nolan said, the pun does not work in english therefore he left it out on purpose. I dont see your point at all. There is no plot hole imo

@Bieragent @FCExplained But without him shouting the name of that who hurted him, how does Poseidon knows? He instantly knows? If so why not warning his son? That is the issue with not having gods or cutting such scenes, the natural path of story feels jammed, incomplete

@ClayTravis more important, Menelaos is called blond in the Odyssey multiple times with emphasis. What is his hair color in Nolans movie?

@ClayTravis Helen does not have a majore role in the Odyssee. I would argue Nolans Helen is a metaphor for the black swan event (Helen is the reason for the war). Her beauty is only important at the beginning of the war.

Why didn’t they just make Zendaya Helen of Troy? Would anyone have complained about this? I don’t think so. Instead they made the most attractive woman in the movie someone other than the most attractive woman in the movie. Makes zero sense.

My Odyssey hot take is that everyone is VASTLY overestimating how easy it would be to recognize someone after 20 years in a world with no photos.

@zendayqs But that is not the point. The statue of Athena was also desecrated. Therefore, the Greeks were cursed by Athena’s wrath. In the original story, Athena’s temple was defiled when Cassandra was dragged from her altar.

ODYSSEY SPOILERS the reveal of zendaya being just an innocent girl in troy who was beheaded in front of odysseus…. and then athena taking form for odysseus as that girl… OH SHE HAAAUUNNTTTS THE NARRATIVE

Some very scattered thoughts on The Odyssey. Also, caveat that I know much more about Homer than I know about films, so this is very much a literature person reacting to a movie. SPOILERS AHEAD (how can you spoil a 5000 year old poem…) - I don’t really care whether it’s “faithful.” There is no single faithful Odyssey. Every translation is already an interpretation. - The music score was just…unremarkable. I kept waiting for the music ro do something to me and it didnt. It was just loud. - Matt Damon will win the Oscar for the siren scene - I wish Hollywood let women be this complicated more often. - Penelope is one of the best parts of Homer and I was glad the film understood that. - Matt Damon completely surprised me. I wasn’t sold on the casting. I thought he was fantastic. - The weariness of the film is intentional. By the time Odysseus gets home, you’re exhausted too. - The modern language didn’t bother me at all. Stopped noticing after 10 mins. - Circe is one of the biggest departures from Homer. Instead of simply being a witch, she’s a woman responding to violent men arriving at her home. - The biggest change is replacing divine punishment with guilt. In Homer, Poseidon keeps Odysseus from getting home. Here, it feels like Odysseus can’t forgive himself. - The “Sea Peoples” bit gutted me because suddenly Troy feels less like a glorious victory and more like a gross violation. Originally the sack of Troy was sanctioned by gods but here it’s the violation of Xenia (Zeus’s law) so uhhh. - The near absence of the gods was fascinating. Because they’re talked about constantly and they’re almost never present. - the Athena reveal scene fucked me uuuup. - I think Nolan is using Homer to say something about modern war. PTSD, shame, veterans unable to truly come ‘home’, innocents and bystanders dealing with the consequence of war. - Tom Holland’s Telemachus was perfect. He’s a boy raised without a father. This is his coming-of-age story too. - Robert Pattinson is delicious. More films should let him play pathetic little men. - I still have absolutely no idea what Nolan was doing with the Laestrygonians. Overall: Enjoyed. Dont go for faithfulness or education. Go to be awed.
