Full reopening of #Hwy1 at Paul’s Slide estimated for late spring 2024. Caltrans confident in duration of work necessary to complete the repairs, with less certainty about how winter rains will affect timetable. Continued fill work, install of culverts, to precede final paving.

Repairs continue at Paul’s Slide on #Hwy1 which remains closed to all traffic for 1.5 miles from Limekiln State Park to just south of Lucia. Crews are building up the elevation of the south end to support what will be the new course of the roadway. Reopening date unknown as yet.

Crews completed repairs at Dani Creek Slide at #Hwy1 on #BigSur Coast. 30,000 cubic yards of slide material removed, and 8 ft. diameter culvert installed. One-and-a-half-mile closure still in effect on #Hwy1 from Limekiln at the south to .6 miles south of Lucia at the north.

Satellite image of California shows virtually no smoke across the state in typical peak fire season, with fire activity confined to the extreme northwest part of the state. Only 257,000 acres have burned across the state this year, which is 4.5x fewer acres than the 5-year average of 1.15 million. California has experienced yet another quiet fire season so far, compared to recent years (2020 and 2021). This past year's very wet winter, combined with very few significant heatwaves and fire weather events, has resulted in minimal fire activity outside far Northern California and the Mojave Desert. Soil moisture across much of the state remains well above normal due to several significant moisture intrusions (e.g. Hilary) and a robust marine layer.
