@TomPelissero That makes sense on paper, but there’s no realistic path back from this. Especially with one of the most sensitive players in the league.

Russell Wilson is due $39 million fully guaranteed in 2024. Another $37M in 2025 is guaranteed for injury only until the 5th day of the 2024 league year in March, when it would fully vest. Benching him now sets up the final decision on the Russell Wilson era in a couple months.

@TomPelissero Do they risk losing a draft pick for intentionally not playing their highest paid player to save $$$? That feels like the equivalent to tanking. Even if they win out (which they had a realistic shot, & perhaps still do), I don’t see how they avoid punishment/losing a draft pick

Is there any good reason Nathaniel Hackett should finish the season? The Broncos are surely going to fire him after the season, so why not give an interim head coach a few games to see if he can start the process of figuring out why Russell Wilson sucks and how he can be fixed?
