For (some) ppl who inject, there’s a very real self-harm aspect to their use. The poking, digging, bleeding, repeatedly drawing the plunger; can be as addicting as the drugs to them. They tend to use often & are less likely to OD, but injuries & infections will kill them first.

2 things: 1) "Tough love" approaches to substance use disorder are just abuse with aphorisms & a heaping helping of moral judgement attached. ➕ 2) Abusive abstinence only rehabs don't need "reviving" because they never left. We need #HarmReduction funding now.

Tonight, President Biden pledged to increase #harmreduction funding. 2 weeks ago, the Biden Administration stood down when harm reduction was the subject of racist, disingenuous attacks. We’ll stand with you Mr. President. But you have stay standing with us. #SOTU2022
