Trading J.J. McCarthy feels like a foregone conclusion for Minnesota.

1. Tyson (position versatility, size and playmaking), 2. Strus 3. Ellis (eilete defender and floor spacer) 4. Schroder (back-up point guard and agitator) 5. Wade(size, and 3-4 defender) 6. Bryant. (Size and floor spacer) 7. Merrill. To me Merril and Strus are duplicates and Strus can provide everything Merril does but he’s slightly biggger, has more play making ability, he’s a better rebounder and he’s a slightly better defender. Just my thoughts.

How do you rank minutes in terms of priority after the core? Strus, Schroder, Ellis, Wade, Tyson, Merrill, Bryant. Go.

Its all starts with the line up on the floor. This line up has one defensive stopper (Mobley), two decent defenders (Merrill and Strus) and two below average defender, Harden and Mitchell) With Harden and Mitchell on the floor you are going to have to give up some scoring if you want to pair them with some defensive stoppers. My opions this paring should never be on the floor together unless its late game for a key offensive posssion or free throw shooting.

Just feels like the Cavs beating themselves defensively. Merrill gives help to Harden off P&R, which is understandable, but it creates all kinds of openings behind the defense as Rollins cuts creates an open spot-up three of a skip.

I agree with the sentiment of his usage, I believe he’s at his best as a mid post playmaker. His low post back to the back touches are pretty underwelming. He’s best facing up and driving. When you stop his straight line drive he does a good job of passing or spin dribble hook. I think he would be even better if he would consistently knock down the face up mid post jumper. But I know analytics says this is inefficient shot.

Bobby Portis was at the top of the wish list but alas. Bryant is fine in the role he’s in - spot minutes when foul trouble or injuries persist. Mobley’s calf injuries put a wrench in his development but also disappointed how they handled the beginning of the year with him offensively. There’s never been true consistency in his role, and it’s changed by the month — don’t think Kenny has handled it the best. Absolutely part of it is on Mobley but he’s largely self corrected to career norms while improving his playmaking. Development isn’t linear and not sure this is the break year for him.

If Schroder is a complete zero offensively, it's hard to justify him being out there.

I agree but I think it’s magnified that none of our bigs are physical. Mobley in particular really struggles with physcial defenders even if they are several inches shorter. His lack of development this year is really disappointing. Thomas Bryant plays hard and can space the floor, but his lack of athletiscm makes him not much of a rim protector or traffic rebounder.

Was hoping they would lean bigger with the Hunter swap but they choose to go smaller. Ellis and Schroder are fine and fill needs but leaves the roster in a bit of a wonky fit. Don't think their frontcourt depth is any different than any top teams, it's they don't have the forward and wing makeup to play smaller more consistently like some of those other teams do.
