Inspired by @deuceclose Is pass blocking perfect? No. Sense blitz? Replace with hot routes as sometimes that IS the protection Doing this gives me OPTIONS & puts defenders in conflict. I look at the LBs first THEN progress because it helps with my pocket presence

The new 3-4 Grizzly set in CFB is really nice against 21 personnel. It gets that strong safety INSIDE the box rather than outside, helping take down that inserting fullback.

Just love how defenders maintain their leverage in coverage so much better this year

3 ways you can play Quarters in CFB27: 1. MOD (Outside Quarter) - Nice against Smash 2. MES (Outside Third) - For defending speed outs 3. MEG (Outside Press Man) - If the matchup is good The more "man" you can play on the outside, the less stress you put on the flat player.

New to CFB27 is that Palms now works to the TE side of Doubles. Nice. But be careful. Savvy players will set the TE to the field and put the safety in a huge bind. Man up the CB to that side to play it safe.

LOVE the new 3-yard CB adjustment in CFB. If you play man, it's a great way to defend drags/slants without having to full press and risk giving up the fade over the top.

Something cool about CFB27, but that might be subtly throwing you off, is the change to inside zone aiming points: - Regular shotgun formations are playside B gap - HB offset shotgun formations are playside A gap

@coreybuckner7 I think it more so depends on your front (keeping run fits clean) and what the opponent is doing. In previous titles you'd have to watch out because some coverages were broken against certain sets. Isn't the case anymore.

@deuceclose Is the good rule of thumb same as '26: Quarters for 2x2, palms for trips, 3 match for condensed?

Defense is finally legit in CFB/Madden. Is this the year of the punter?

@deuceclose Adjusting to trips is one of the advantages of 3 High 🤣

I'm convinced 4-2-5 (Over G) is the only defense worth using as a base in CFB. Others: - Penny/Mint loses an Edge for rush/contain - 3 high stuff completely breaks down against trips - Nickel sets get gashed with the diverse run schemes - And heavy sets can't match up with spread And you can legitimately use it against 21, 12, and 10 personnel.

@Goliath_530 Nice. Very similar formation actually. Both have a 6T DE rather than a 9.

@deuceclose I’ve had good success with 4-3 over. Use Pitt or UConn so it’s the press quarters book and has palms instead of just quarters

I feel like 27 will be the first year we genuinely have to make full reads and deep adjustments. Really curious to see how people play when we can no longer rely on plays that are kind of just good against everything.

@davidtalksp0rts Can kind of think of the offensive line as rest defense. But I guess football doesn’t really have a significant transitional phase.

@deuceclose Think the other aspect that you don’t see as much in football is the rest defense/attack (basically, the positions your defenders and midfielders take up when you’re attacking to prevent fast breaks, or vice versa).

It's remarkable just how similar soccer and football are tactically. Despite the obvious cultural differences. The same thoughts on man marking, zones, pressure, ball possession, space, position/leverage, etc. are evolving in almost the same way. Even structurally—the 4-4-2 is basically the over front with 2-high safeties.
