Not even IP specific. This applies to every single sports nft project outside of Panini. Including IP’s like the NFL, MLB, NFL, UFC, some of the best in the world. The IP alone isn’t even enough. Strong purveyor backing, forward thinking, and execution is key. Panini truly stands alone.

NFT Projects have the challenge of establishing their IP. BAYC was successful bc Guy Oseary got celebs to buy (or be given) apes which led to massive PR (i.e. Jimmy Fallon and Paris Hilton talking about BAYC and the apes they bought on the Tonight Show). Panini is a known brand in the physical card collecting world which automatically gives the digital platform staying power. Same goes with Pinnacle via Disney IP. The IP is already established. From there it's about building the ecosystem, creating value, marketing, etc. Tbh these are the only two projects I've touched over the past few years. Bullish on both.

This is actually scary. If you put money on PFP NFT projects in 2021, now your holding is mostly 1% if blue chip (unless punks), 0% ow. If you put 💰on #PaniniBlockchain cards in 2021, now you at least 10x (up to 50x). The diff choices make a 1:1000 ROI performance difference.
spinotron@spinotron

Cards are having an all time high moment. 10 ATH months in last 24 months, first such already surpassed 2021 number. #PaniniBlockchain is just an on chain native version of hobby catalogue from 2020 to 2026 (much picked w/ less variations more rarities). Data consistent year over year. On individual item level, 10x+ since 2021, unlike 99.9% NFT projects where single item becomes 10% of 2021 number.

🚨 Collectors’ highlight: Adl = the largest secondary on chain/OC spender w/ $3.86M. Only user with $1M+ sale OC. Jascar seems gunning for 👑 at $3.79M, but w/ older wnZ’s $129k. He is now the largest at $3.92M, soon the 1st to cross $4M. Absolute cinema on #PaniniBlockchain! [BC 176/1959]

Panini Baseball has gone from universally disgusted to mass-adopted in a quick 1-2 years. You can refuse to adapt, or worse, block out everyone else adapting Or try to understand yourself why the shift occurred. I myself changed. Unlicensed of premier brands have grown on me

Listen. This card is awful. The hitter doesn't look like Ohtani. Unlicensed. Sticker auto. The auto doesn't look like Ohtani's. Absolutely terrible. With all of the amazing cards available worldwide, why would anyone choose this?

🚨 Breaking news: @PaniniAmerica CFO Robert/Bob Hull just announced that #PaniniBlockchain bridge to ethereum chain of @ethereumfndn @VitalikButerin will be live end of this month. Native ethereum NFT collectors will soon see #PaniniBC cards on @opensea. A long waited and much deserved seminal landmark moment in hobby and blockchain history. You and me are part of it. There is also a juicy roadmap where many wishlists by community are in scoping stage. [BC 174/1959]

Q. // Where’s the only place you can ever lay hands on a 2021 Ohtani Absolute Kaboom?? A. // The #paniniblockchain - and we know the supply will forever be capped at 219. Snag one, before they’re out of reach 🧠 #thehobby #digitalcollectibles

Unlicensed gets no love they say 🤔 When does this Ohtani market cool off? Can these prices keep going or is this going to come back down? #thehobby @CardPurchaser

Monthly @NBATopShot drop tomorrow. The debut of the new 5.25% "service fee" for credit card purchases/reservations. The reservation purchase limits have increased for this drop to push people towards having to reserve on credit. The exact strain of slimy behavior one can bet on from the @NBATopShot team. On the drop - it's decent. Probably the best cases to date, very concentrated on the high-end chases (lots of big 1/1's) which matter way more than average contents here. Boom or bust variance. High upside and minimal risk if looking to flip. Boxes have 6 standard packs (vs. 5 previous) along with the usual 2 box toppers. Standard packs aren't anything special but have had a very strong following and high demand in the previous drops, regardless of contents - $40+ is inevitable making boxes and packs very desirable at MSRP.

@CardAficionado They should be fine if they use verifiable randomization. The sketchy breakers knowing exactly what's in every pack is completely different imo

Something that scares companies out of the repack biz would indeed be a big shakeup to the card business, but we’re a long way from that. This would include the digital claw apps that have popped up (most notably Courtyard). Potentially could impact digital repacks too.

@coultin @TopShotYoda @P8erade4u @BilloBank @LincolnCannon damn right I would have. I just don't have (& most of us don't) endless play money to let just sit around on pre-offers everywhere hoping someone bites on it when they pull the moment like Nerja. I put offers out & end up cancelling because I have to repurpose it

I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I think it’s time that we consider high value moments being put back exclusively in the most expensive packs. This moment would not have sold for this if it was pulled by someone who paid $$$ for it. Sales like this devalue other similar moments. I promise I’ll still buy packs @NBATopShot, even if I wouldn’t be able to afford the high-end moment chase. @roham @vinylsneverdie @Eisenberg43

We just did the most massive study in collectibles for a Fortune 500 company. The youth collector, who spends all day on his or her phone, has a collection that is at least 95% physical. The NFT boom and bust did collosal damage to the hope of digital collecting.

👀🚀🔥 Physical sports card collectors don’t want to hear this… but the hobby is moving on. The Panini Blockchain cards ecosystem exposes just how flawed physical collecting really is. Thread 🧵👇 1️⃣ **Grading is subjective** Two identical cards can get different grades depending on the day, the grader, or the company. That’s not scarcity. That’s inconsistency. 2️⃣ **Population manipulation** With physical cards you constantly hear: “New cases found.” “Warehouse inventory surfaced.” “Reprints.” Meanwhile blockchain cards have **provable supply forever**. 3️⃣ **Damage risk** Corners. Scratches. Centering. Shipping damage. Collectors spend thousands just protecting cardboard. Digital cards don’t degrade. 4️⃣ **Slow market** Want to sell a physical card? • Ship it • Wait for grading • Wait for auction • Pay fees Blockchain trading = instant global liquidity. 5️⃣ **Fake cards exist** Counterfeits and altered cards are everywhere in physical collecting. Blockchain ownership is verified on-chain. 6️⃣ **The irony** The same company producing physical cards — **Panini America** — already proved the future with blockchain. Many collectors just aren’t ready to admit it. 7️⃣ **Market inefficiency** Some 1/1 blockchain cards sell for less than random physical parallels. That gap won’t last forever. Early collectors understand this. The next generation of the hobby is digital. Something I think "traditional" collectors completely miss with digital is what is actually considered collectible by each generation. I've almost exclusively seen "digital" used to describe platforms like Panini Blockchain, NBA Top Shot and other NFT projects. I don't think that comes even close to capturing what is being "collected" by younger generations and mostly limits the scope to a digital asset of something we typically associate with something physical (art, cards). Why has the community completely ignored categories like collectible cosmetics in video games? Ignoring these types of collectibles — and they are absolutely viewed as such by their owners — dismisses markets that have proven to be worth billions. Franchises such as Counter-Strike, Fortnite, Call of Duty, League of Legends and many, many more have become so profitable because of how robust the digital collectible market is for their cosmetics and even items that provide in-game utility. If we limit the scope to items like trading cards, yes, younger collectors are more than likely going to have largely physical collections. But if we ask the youngest generations about -all- of their collectibles, I think you'll find much more value tied up into Roblox and Minecraft accounts than you might have guessed. The younger generation is collecting a -massive- amount of digital assets, they just don't look like what many "traditional" collectors expected.
