The Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, together with Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, has withdrawn all criminal charges against Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the former CEO of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni. Then the headmaster uses that money to buy books AND to pay the parents back the interest. Every year, the school loses more money trying to keep the books. But everyone says, "Look at our nice books!" That's what NDC's Bank of Ghana is doing. Except it's your money, not books.

1. Ghana's President recently announced a new concourse to connect terminals 2 and 3 at Accra Airport. 2. A new piece of infrastructure in Africa is always music to my ears. Africa needs to ramp up! 3. But we also have to admit that infrastructure-led development in Africa has often lacked "strategic policy guidance" in selection, design, and integration for impact. 4. Given the patchiness of legacy infrastructure, EVERY new build needs to be seen in "corridor" terms: i.e. as a function of lockstep design. 5. Hence the concept of "corridor finance". New infrastructure in Africa face daunting synchronisation and optimisation challenges due to weak and missing links, thus requiring serious policy design. 6. And yet, as you know: katanomics.org! 7. Ghana's President is right about the need to future-proof Accra airport. But the policy diagnosis & corridor-thinking must be stronger. 8. He mentioned congestion - between 2022 & 2025, passenger numbers have grown from 1.8m to ~2.5 million. 9. But look closely. Terminal 3 was actually built to handle 5 MILLION PASSENGERS a year. Way more than current international traffic. 10. The real challenge stems from bottlenecks causing peak-hour scheduling overload, especially between 6pm & 10pm. Chokepoints at terminal allocation, air-bridge/gate availability, immigration/security staffing, baggage performance and screening at the evening departure bank. 11. In fact, between 2019 & 2025, international aircraft movements at Accra Airport fell from 30,497 to 27,062. And West Africa passenger traffic has actually dropped below 2019 levels, despite Ghana's regional hub ambitions. 12. Whilst the new concourse proposal signals growth, we are not paying enough attention to routes and carriers. The two most high-profile new route/carrier announcements in the last few years both fell through. 13. Virgin Atlantic initially froze expansions due to an engine supplier issue. But when it resumed other announced routes, like Cancun, went ahead while Accra was shelved. 14. Air Transat's planned Toronto - Accra service was also shelved. 15. Lufthansa decided that the lower-end Brussels route had to replace the flagship Frankfurt one. 16. Air France also took away the Paris route. 17. No doubt aviation ministry folks would point to Delta's resumption of Atlanta after 13 years. But that was a seasonal rather than strategic new play. 18. The only significant counter-trend has been Etihad adding Accra to its list of six new African routes planned for 2027. 19. Airlines already serving Accra complain of high operational costs and weak commercial prospects. Policy must emphasise fixing this. 20. Especially given a customer perception of high prices on top. Competition is critical and that requires attracting more players. 21. In short, the new infrastructure devt charge that took effect last month contradicts the political vision of Accra as an aviation hub. 22. As we katanomists say: when politics clash with policy, development suffers in the long-run.
