Coffee production in #EasternAfrica faces a serious threat from #coffee wilt disease, caused by the fungus 𝐹𝑢𝑠𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑢𝑚 𝑥𝑦𝑙𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑠. The disease leads to leaf discoloration, leaf loss, trunk swelling, cracks in mature trees, and eventually plant death. 🟢 Good news! @BioInnovate Africa is supporting a project that has developed 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐮𝐬 (biofungicide + biofertilizer) to manage the disease while improving soil health and nutrient supply—supporting sustainable coffee production. 𝐇𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡? It begins with bare feet. A silent intruder slips in, lured by the exposed skin. At first, it feels like nothing — 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵, 𝗮 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲. But beneath the surface, it burrows deeper, settles in, and quietly takes control. What seemed insignificant slowly turns painful, inflamed, and disabling. By the time its presence is undeniable, it has already taken hold. And when the intruder is finally discovered, the battle to remove it is rarely gentle. Harsh chemicals are poured onto open skin — 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 — desperate to force it out. The pain is immediate. The relief, uncertain. Read more: bioinnovate-africa.org/has-the-silent… @MMUST_Kenya @GuluVarsity @kalromkulima @Sida @icipe #bioinnovations #bioeconomy #eastafrica

What turns great ideas into lasting impact? Communication. Strong communication turns ideas into action, builds trust, helps innovations grow & reach more people, and communications personnel are essential in these processes. They bridge #science & application, translate #research into actionable insights, engage stakeholders, and strengthen learning across innovation networks. At the recent @icipe Seminar Series, Sarah Ndonye shared findings from her doctoral research titled “Strengthening Communication and Knowledge Systems for Agricultural Innovation Networks in Eastern Africa: Evidence from the @BioInnovate Africa Programme", highlighting that communicative interactions, enabling environments, and effective knowledge management strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange within agri-food innovation networks. @Sida
