#ZeroMalaria  - we’re almost there! Success is possible, even in tough areas! Reductions in malaria cases were seen in almost all countries in the Western Pacific Region. The Greater Mekong Subregion proves #malaria elimination is achievable, with cases falling by nearly 90% despite long-standing drug resistance. Since 2000, 2.3 billion cases and 14 million deaths from malaria have been averted.

Your decision makes a difference. For over 200 years, vaccines have protected generation after generation. Vaccines have been so successful that many of the diseases that families once feared are now rarely seen in many parts of the world. Families’ decisions to vaccinate their children, together with health workers’ commitment to reaching every child, have contributed to a 40% improvement in infant survival over the past 50 years and protected tens of millions of children from lifelong disabilities. #VaccinesWork #WorldImmunizationWeek

Congratulations to #Australia for eliminating trachoma as a public health problem. Trachoma, the world’s leading infectious cause of blindness, no longer represents a public health problem in the country. Australia is the 30th country to achieve this milestone, contributing to global progress towards the targets set out in the WHO road map for neglected tropical diseases 2021–2030. who.int/news/item/29-0…

WHO congratulates #Australia on eliminating #trachoma – the world’s leading infectious cause of blindness - as a public health problem. Australia joins 30 countries that have eliminated trachoma worldwide. It is the 16th Member State of the Western Pacific Region to eliminate at least one neglected tropical disease (NTD). This shows what sustained action, strong partnerships and a commitment to reaching communities most affected by health inequities can do. This milestone reflects decades of targeted public health action alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership, community commitment and sustained public investment. Progress like this brings us closer to ending neglected tropical diseases globally.

Thank you, #Geneva, for illuminating the Jet d’Eau to mark #WorldImmunizationWeek. The greatest gift we can offer any people at any age is protection from disease through vaccines, helping them safeguard themselves, their loved ones, and generations to come. For every generation, vaccines work.

The progress made against diseases like measles and polio took decades to achieve. But when immunization coverage weakens, progress can be reversed. This #WorldImmunizationWeek, let’s commit to protect the gains we’ve made, reach children still being missed, and keep immunization strong. Our decisions make a difference! #VaccinesWork

Every parent wants their child to grow up healthy and protected. This #WorldImmunizationWeek, WHO’s Dr Huong Tran reminds us that immunization is not only a public health priority – it is also deeply personal. Across the Western Pacific Region, 2.1 million children are still missing at least one vaccine dose, and diseases like measles can return when protection weakens. Protecting children starts with timely vaccination – and with making sure every child is reached. Check records. Catch up on missed doses. Keep immunization strong. #VaccinesWork

The successful interruption of P. falciparum transmission shows that elimination is within reach. The focus now shifts to tackling the remaining burden of P. vivax and preventing the re-establishment of transmission.

🇰🇭 For many years, entering Cambodia’s forested areas meant facing a life-threatening health risk: malaria. 🦟 Once one of the country’s deadliest public health threats, #malaria has been pushed to the edge of elimination.
