Small Mammal Conservation Organization (SMACON)
It’s official! On Friday, August 22, we broke ground on the Afi Biodiversity Center. The new camp will serve as a base for our research and conservation projects, and it’s all thanks to the Buanchor community, our amazing donors, partners, and the CRS Forestry Commission.

A species is as good as the #environment it lives in. A species also forms the #environment for both its own kind, other species, and the non-living components. Where the #environment is no longer what it used to be, the species there may no longer be what they used to be. 🫴

On a day like this, we reflect on all #endangered species, and the struggle to survive in their remaining habitats. This female of the Endangered Banded Jewel Damselfly pictured below 👇 is attempting to lay her egg around the stream bank, hoping that they eventually survive

Over 100 species of dragonflies sighted in Cross River State alone including two #critically #endangered species, two endangered species and at least four #vulnerable species. A call for more targeted #conservation #actions @WCS_Nigeria @JudicaelFL Image Cred: Jan Van Leeuwen

Popular opinion among students in our #school and folks around Ife is that if a #bat's 🦇 poop hasn't dropped on you within your 4-6 years of being a student of #GreatIfe, then your studentship hasn't been sealed from above 😂

Our university campus boasts of one of the largest sub-populations of the fruit bat, Eiodolon helvum in Southwest Nigeria, with over 30,000 individuals at any time. There are more bats than students on our campus 😂
