"The idea that the poor should have leisure has always been shocking to the rich. In the early nineteenth century, fifteen hours was the ordinary day's work for a man; children sometimes did as much, and very commonly did twelve hours a day. When meddlesome busybodies suggested that perhaps these hours were rather long, they were told that work kept adults from drink and children from mischief. When I was a child, shortly after urban working men had acquired the vote, certain public holidays were established by law, to the great indignation of the upper classes. I remember hearing an old Duchess say: 'What do the poor want with holidays? They ought to work.' People nowadays are less frank, but the sentiment persists, and is the source of much of our economic confusion." — Bertrand Russell

The first GLP-1 drug came from the Gila monster. But I think that is just one example of a much larger opportunity- harnessing natural products from extreme animals for human health. The feast-and-famine physiology of pythons is an ideal system to go fishing!! 🐍🐍🐍

Jokes aside, this is an incredibly important day for freedom and democracy and, most importantly, for basic common sense and human dignity, in the spirit of 1989. We often fall into despair these days, saying that frenzied ultra-populists and corrupt servants of a totalitarian axis are leading the West to ruin. But no, Hungarians have now made it more than clear that there is hope. The problems will be resolved, the key is to hold on to one of the greatest achievements in history -- the Western democratic civilization -- and not foolishly surrender it to the jackals falsely promising mountains of gold.

Meanwhile in Russia. I’m starting to feel like the “special military operation” to take Kyiv in three days in February 2022 isn’t going very well.

🚨To rational Albertans who are contemplating voting for separation “to send Ottawa a message:”🚨 This👇 is the level of utter lunacy you would be endorsing. This kook is actually the principal leader of the separatist project. He characterizes a limited, conventional trade agreement with Canada’s second largest trading partner - an agreement endorsed by Premiers Smith & Moe - as the “(imposition) of Chinese Communism” on Canada.* And he endorses the imposition of 100% tariffs on all Canadian exports to the US, including Alberta energy, agricultural and other exports, which would be catastrophic for our economy. You might want to ask yourself: if this is how insane the separatist leadership is, what else are they wrong about? Coastal access, indigenous relations, investor confidence, real estate values, debt obligations, currency, defence, and on and on. Rath personifies the separatist project: reckless rage farming wedded to whacko conspiracy theories and economic illiteracy. Severely normal Albertans are smart, enterprising, self-confident. Yes, we want and demand a better deal in the federation. But we’re not going to be dupes for this kind of craziness.

THANK YOU @POTUS for standing up for Alberta against Ottawa imposed Chinese Communism!

This sartorial choice could not have been anything but deliberate. It is very, very difficult to believe it was a coincidence.

Proud to be an associate member of the Cdn Pride caucus -led by my Senate colleague @KristopherWells Carol Off on @cbcasithappens once asked why I so strongly identified with @LGBTQ rights. It was because my Grandparents shared a chimney in Auschwitz with Gay men.
