Ok, Canadians. You know what to do. Tighten our belts. Strengthen our resolve. Show our unity. Demonstrate our national pride. Support our real allies. Put Canada first forever and always.

Canada stands with the LGBTQI+ community and reaffirms our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and safe spaces, where everyone can celebrate freely and peacefully. We condemn violence and hatred in all its forms.

Hate does not exist in a vaccum. Community safety and democracy are under threat when hate and prejudice are weaponized and used to sew distrust and division. Demand more accountability. Build communities of love and inclusion.
Mark Carney@MarkJCarney

Pride is a celebration of every person’s right to live openly and authentically. The attack at the Christopher Street Day festival in Berlin is horrific. No one should face hatred or violence because of who they are or who they love. My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Berlin and around the world.

To my fellow Americans: Please listen. Despite the attacks, distractions, and false narratives, Canada 🇨🇦 remains one of America’s closest and most faithful friends. Canadians have stood with us in our darkest hours—from helping Americans escape during the Iran hostage crisis, to responding to natural disasters, to opening their homes and airports to us after 9/11. Canada is not only our neighbor. It is one of our most important trading partners, our ally, and our friend. If Americans could choose any country in the world to share our longest border with, we would choose Canada every time. That is the truth—and it is time we stood up for our friends.

Funding shouldn’t be cut but scaled up. SOGI 123 is a vital program and should be funded in every province and territory in Canada. Education helps to reduce prejudice and ignorance. School should be a place where all young people are supported to thrive not simply survive.
Jarryd Jäger@JarrydJaeger

An internal email from the ARC Foundation on July 15 states that the Ministry of Education “made the decision to discontinue funding for SOGI 123.” The BC Conservatives say SOGI 123 is defunded. Education Minister Lisa Beare says this is a “lie,” and that it’s “not defunded.”

21 years ago today, Canada became the 4th country in the world, and 1st outside of Europe, to legalize same-sex marriage. The sky didn’t fall. Hell didn’t break loose. Only Canada’s capacity for love and acceptance increased. Now over 30+ countries have followed Canada’s lead.

We’re backing the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence with more than $600 million.  That means stronger support for victims and survivors, better education and prevention, and crisis hotlines people can count on.
Rechie Valdez@rechievaldez

Today, alongside my provincial and territorial counterparts, I announced a $604.7 million investment to continue implementing the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence. We’re helping prevent violence, support survivors, and build safer communities.

As the site of the first Pride gathering in Canada in 1971, Hanlan’s Point Beach has always been a safe space for the 2SLGBTQI+ community. Happy to meet with Friends of Hanlan’s to discuss how to ensure Hanlan’s Point is protected for future generations.
