Where do we go from here? Some predictions for the rest of 2024… By no means comprehensive. I am not a prophet but this is my third cycle and 6th year of continuous work here... Macro • Trump will win and usher in a new age of crypto-friendly regulation Projects will become more aggressive with buyback and burns for their tokens thereafter — causing tokens to have a stronger source of demand based on protocol-usage. • There will likely be another SVB banking mini-crisis. This time it may be in Europe or Asia. This will cause a fresh flow of liquidity as the US government is forced to swap freshly printed dollars in exchange for rapidly-depreciating Treasury bonds. Remember, when it comes to crypto prices, liquidity leads the way and most other things are noise as this @Delphi_Digital chart elucidates. Web3 Gaming • Games will start to iterate and experiment more with new strategies to maintain community + attention post TGE. Teams will find it’s hard and start to have to solve the “sustainability” around token incentives, just as Axie has had to. Axie was first, but everyone will learn that all web3 games have to find ways to become more efficient and calculated with incentives. • H2 will be more PVE than PVP for web3 gaming. Now that the king has been established and Ronin is on the path to opening up via the permissionless zkEVM and L2 chains, there will be less animosity between the web3 gaming spaces underdogs and Ronin. This is due to mutual benefit as Ronin begins to welcome teams and onboard them at a faster clip as things begin to open up. There will be less teams that resent the Ronin effect and more teams hopeful that they can harness its power themselves one day. Ronin • The first Ronin games were relatively casual. The next generation of Ronin games will display more complex gameplay loops, social interactions, and economic systems. When we think of the games that are no-brainers for the integration of web3 tech we think of games like Eve Online and RuneScape. MMOs with deep economies and complex social interactions. People are excited about Lumiterra. Pixels is getting deeper as the team iterates on the gameplay mechanics and economy. What other MMOs will be revealed in 2024 on Ronin? Axie • Axie has started to grow a bit but, if we’re being honest, has been a bit too defensive for a while now. Axie is actually dealing with dynamics that have never been solved in Web3 gaming before. Expect more aggressive experimentation from Axie in H2. Whether it be the premium bounty board, on-chain guilds, upgrades to the staking system, continued improvements on Homeland's core loop, or Origins PVE mode— Axie’s second half is looking spicier than the first half, which was more about getting the growth engine into gear again (Bounty Board V1) and reconfiguring roadmaps that needed long tweaking. ---------------------------------- This is an important period. There’ll be plenty of mud. We’ll need our grit as always. This space is not about what we do when things are going smoothly. It’s about how consistent we can be to our path. Our vision. We have an opportunity in front of us that only comes around once every 35 years. The chance to use gaming as the primary use case for a technology that can upend everything we know. The last clear analog is Battle.net and how it pushed the adoption of the internet, especially in places like South Korea. Embrace the hate. Use it as fuel. As fire. We move forward as one. Money will not make you happy. Good exercise habits, working on something you’re interested in, and being married to the right person will make you happy. Many of the people I know that made it last cycle actually got less happy and less healthy.
