The reason it's ridiculous is because he actually was a huge part of the offense. Because he sets screens, each play is designed to hit him on slips to the basket if players overcommit to the shooters. And, when he catches at the elbow, pinch-post action, he is meant to wheel to the basket and attack when his defender helps on the cutters, which he did all the time.
