Ordinals was and is an availability attack on Bitcoin. Their proliferation degraded the system for monetary users.
I'm glad to see their failure. I still worry about another frenzy in the future, though.

We're shutting down @ord_io and @ZapApp at the end of the month This really sucks because great people put a lot of hard work into these products, friends invested in me, our users believed in us, and I feel like I let everyone down In the end we ran out of money and don't see a path forward Despite that I'm still incredibly proud of everything that we did I'm proud that we organically built two respected crypto brands that never farmed anyone or launched a token I'm proud that we empowered over a million people to explore Ordinals inscriptions on Bitcoin I'm proud that we shipped an app that let anyone sign up and buy a Bitcoin memecoin in under 30 seconds (an experience that many considered impossible) For the past 3 years I've woken up every day excited to build in the Bitcoin ecosystem and feel blessed to have had that opportunity I never took a salary, have no regrets, and wouldn't trade the epic moments we had along the way for anything Thank you to my cofounder Zach, our team, our investors, and all of our users for being part of this journey with me 🧡

Will be interesting to see over the coming year or two how the ordinals marketplace dynamics change.
I have a feeling we'll see a very clear mp winner emerge soon, and I also think that we'll lean further and further into galleries (and thus, a gallery repo) in order to keep the generally accepted metadata somewhere public and less ruggable.
I'm genuinely surprised by how few of the long-standing but less popular collections haven't inscribed galleries or thought to submit, but their motivation right now may just not be there. If and when we see volume returning to the bitcoin beta space, I bet those mfers will wake right back up and index their shit 😆

I don't read the NYT so not sure their logic but in my limited research on this two things stuck out to me: 1) Back's email to Satoshi on 8/2008 confirming citation and recommending Wei Dai (who eventually becomes the first reference in white paper) so Back had MAJOR influence but can't be him bc why would he email himself like that, that's insane. 2) Hal Finney (who received first btc) lived within a few blocks of a guy named Satoshi Nakamoto. I mean what are the odds that's just a coincidence? Maybe a billion to one? On flip they say he was running a race during emails once and spelled words like a brit, so.. who knows.. In the end it's prob better no one knows for sure

Using technology to structure your life internally is totally valid and personal choice, but as soon as I become just another piece of that workflow, I’m no longer interested in the conversation.
If you send me a calendly link after asking me if I want to get on a call, or if I catch you using AI to reach out to me, that is the last you will hear from me.
Bring back intimacy and imperfection. None of it matters if we treat it like it doesn’t matter.

@BitcoinerDev @Anthropic Im still working on how to make sense of it all in my head, but I've recently begun to view humans as very specifically and laboriously trained limited algorithms. Which I think is really beautiful.

@itsdonnyok @Anthropic haha, totally agree. Maybe not the place to discuss, but what you are mentioning also leads to a kind of argument in favor of art in a post-AI world. Especially art that has intention and meaning behind it.
