Every so often I like to watch this clip of Jacob Bronowski from "Ascent of Man" as a reminder that it's up to the human race to make the world a place worth living for the human race. "We have to touch people", he says. youtube.com/watch?v=ltjI3B…

#MeteorSighting: A very bright daylight fireball was observed by witnesses from the northeast U.S. and Canada this morning, March 17. An analysis of currently available data places first visibility of the meteor above Lake Erie. The fireball - caused by a small asteroid nearly 6 feet in diameter and weighing about 7 tons - moved southeast at 45,000 mph before fragmenting over Valley City. The fragments continued on to the south, producing meteorites in the vicinity of Medina County, Ohio. 🔗 go.nasa.gov/4bcMwMg Eyewitness accounts supplied by the American Meteor Society

Iran hit 16 vessels so far in Strait of Hormuz. That’s all it takes for Iran to control 20% of the world’s oil and become an oil hegemon — the number 1 strategic outcome US has sought to prevent in Middle East since 1970s. Iran is not weakening— it is gaining power.

WASHINGTON, March 10 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump's administration said it used $5.6 billion in munitions during the first two days of strikes against Iran in a report provided to U.S. congressional committees, per source familiar with the matter. @ReutersZengerle

In recent years companies have sometimes stopped providing any new imagery at all (c.f. Ukraine) but Planet has been a very reliable provider and I think a two-week delay is a first for them. Speaks to the sensitivity of some of the battle damage that has been coming out.
Geoff Brumfiel@gbrumfiel

Satellite company @planet has announced a *14 day delay* to the release of imagery in the MidEast. This will be a huge setback for those trying to verify events in the region.

Sal Mercogliano (WGOW Shipping) 🚢⚓🐪🚒🏴‍☠️
General Caine was asked about escorting and his comment was, "on the potential, if tasked to escort, we'll look at the range of options." 1⃣Has @CENTCOM @US5thFleet not have these options already planned out and war gamed? 2⃣So, there is no current tasking to escort ships and resume the flow of traffic through the Strait 3⃣Figuring out problems as they come is great, but this should have been looked at before Feb 28.
Charlie B@supbrow

At the press briefing today, the CJCS, when asked about providing naval escort to shopping in the Strait of Hormuz, said: "on the on the potential, if tasked to escort, we'll look at the range of options to set the military conditions to be able to do that. And then like we always do with every potential mission, come to the secretary and the president with both what are the resources required, what is the command and control required, and what are the risks and how do we mitigate those risks. So, we're looking at a range of options there and we'll figure out how to solve problems as they come to us." ➡️Well, sounds like a lot of staffers will soon be familiarizing themselves with #NCAGS or Naval Control and Guidance of Shipping. (Don't worry if you've have not heard of this. Most US Naval Officers haven't either, in my anecdotal experience.) Refer to the NCAGS page at the NATO Shipping Centre for the documents. There is even a course! shipping.nato.int See also the @DOTMARAD Maritime Security Communications with Industry (MSCI) Web Portal for Advisories and Alerts with specific details for the NCAGS detachment at @CMF_Bahrain maritime.dot.gov/msci/maritime-… Good luck! The economy of the entire world is counting on you. 🤞🏽 @mercoglianos @johnkonrad @MikeSchuler @cdrsalamander @lawofsea @BDHerzinger @brentdsadler @NextNavy
