Bro your diplomatic style is Dhurandhar; mine is a somewhat more subtle where the substance takes priority over style. Not in every negotiation do you treat the other side as we do Pakistan. I mean we dig in our heels, don’t compromise on basics but remain open to a compromise that we can live with. We walk away with a real win which to my mind is preferable to telling the other guy "tu jaanta nahin mein kaun hoon aur mera baap kaun hai" and then losing the win. Strangely I am thinking like a tambrahm while you are steeped in loud Delhi Punju culture.

I appreciate @chetan_bhagat for opening up a necessary conversation around wheelchair usage at airports, even if the reality is more layered than it appears. I’m not sure it’s fair to call this “abuse” without context. In my travels, I’ve consistently noticed that flights originating from Europe have only a handful of wheelchairs, while flights from India, especially to the US, have long, seemingly endless queues. At first, it puzzled me too. A pilot friend once explained something that becomes obvious when you see the full picture. A large share of Indian international travellers are elderly parents visiting children abroad. Many have knee issues, low muscle strength, limited exposure to long walks, and little familiarity with massive, signage-driven airports that assume confidence, speed, and digital literacy. Add another cultural reality: Indians panic easily in unfamiliar systems, especially when there is no human mediation. So children often pre-emptively book wheelchairs not to “cheat” the system, but to ensure gate-to-gate human assistance in an intimidating environment. Is the system being optimised? Yes. Is it always fraudulent? No. In many cases, it’s a practical workaround for ageing bodies, anxious minds, and airports designed for the young, fit, and fluent. Sometimes what looks like gaming the system is simply families choosing certainty over chaos. The solution isn’t shaming travellers. It’s better design: assisted-walk options, human help points, electric carts, senior-friendly lanes, and support without defaulting to wheelchairs. And this is a transitional problem. As today’s Gen X, more travelled, more airport-literate, and more physically active, grows older, this dependence will naturally decline. Some problems don’t need outrage. They need empathy, design, and time.

As Chennai heads into 2026, artificial intelligence, automation and digitisation are no longer futuristic policy ideas. They are shaping how the city moves, from metros and buses to traffic signals and commuter apps. The biggest leap is coming from Chennai Metro Rail’s Phase II, which will introduce driverless trains. CMRL has awarded a ₹1,538-crore contract to Alstom to supply 32 driverless train sets with 96 coaches using unattended train operation technology. These trains will run across 118.9 km on three corridors. Train movement, speed regulation, stopping accuracy and door operations will be automated, with safety handled through automatic train protection. Operations will be monitored in real time from a control centre, where staff can step in during emergencies, ensuring human supervision remains central. AI is also deeply embedded behind the scenes. It is being used in designing rolling stock, signalling systems and maintenance planning. In signalling, AI supports everything from requirement capturing and documentation to software coding, testing and validation. In maintenance, predictive systems will decide when trains need to be sent to yards, helping optimise fleet usage. These AI systems are continuously trained with fresh data, rigorously tested before deployment, and built with feedback loops and scope for human intervention. In the coming years, AI use is expected to expand further into operations, maintenance, real-time passenger information and demand management. Across the wider transport ecosystem, AI-led systems have become more visible. Greater Chennai Traffic Police has expanded adaptive traffic signals that adjust timings based on real-time vehicle flow, especially during peak hours. MTC has rolled out GPS-based fleet management to track buses, reduce bunching and provide real-time arrival information. Bus arrival updates are now available through the Chennai One app and display boards at select locations. Cumta is integrating information across different transport modes, including fares, timings and route mapping, through the Chennai One app, which has already crossed eight lakh downloads. Digitisation has reduced manual processes, with MTC’s annual issuance of around 60,000 card passes now fully digital. Railway return tickets and metro season tickets are also being integrated. Algorithms are influencing infrastructure planning too. Vehicle movement data from cameras has been used for predictive analysis, leading to proposals like the Kilambakkam skywalk and redesigned intermodal connectivity at Tambaram and Guindy stations based on people’s movement patterns. At the same time, 2025 exposed the limits of automation. During heavy northeast monsoon flooding, algorithms could not reroute traffic. Traffic police manually diverted vehicles, MTC adjusted services on the ground, and metro timings were extended based on crowd feedback, reinforcing that AI supports, but does not replace, human decision-making. Cumta is also testing 165 intelligent traffic signals that can detect ambulances and fire engines, automatically turn green, assess traffic volumes and dynamically adjust timings. MTC plans to pilot intelligent traffic systems on the Alandur–Airport route next year with IIT Madras to study whether automated signals can help buses move faster. For commuters, the impact is gradual but visible, with fewer sudden snarls at some junctions, better bus arrival estimates and smoother metro operations. Fixed-cycle signals are giving way to data-driven responses as congestion builds. Chennai’s transport future is no longer on paper. It is already on the streets and tracks.

@ChessbaseIndia Arun uncle used to live in the same complex in Pune where I lived in my final year of engineering in 1998. Swati Ghate used to train under him. we never talked chess, but I always had fond memories of him being extremely jovial with a conquering smile and a great disposition.

It's with profound sadness that we got to know about the passing away of one of India's finest chess players in the 80s - IM Arun Vaidya. Arun Vaidya passed away on 24th of December 2025. He was not only known as one of the strongest players of Maharashtra but also was a wonderful chess trainer and has trained a lot of fantastic students. The most prominent being Abhijit Kunte, Swati Ghate, Prathamesh Mokal, Soumya Swaminathan, Eesha Karavade, Rakesh Kulkarni, Amruta Mokal and many others. His love for chess was so immense that he would lose the track of time when playing chess or teaching the nuances of the game to his students. He loved to analyze games and would often spend hours either showing his games to the students or analyzing their games. The common pattern you would see in all his students was the love for the game of chess, which he would so easily pass from himself. Arun Vaidya, you will be missed. Our deepest condolences to his near and dear ones in this difficult time. Please do share in the comments below if you have any memories with Arun Vaidya. We will be soon writing a detailed article on him, his life and his journey on ChessBase Inida. #chess #chessbaseindia #Arunvaidya

@vonbrauckmann @Arya_Anviksha_ @vonbrauckmann in a recent rally JD talks about how he raised his kids as Christian and how he deeply hopes that one day his wife will convert too. I assume you did not see this video. Either way, big fan of your stand against hinduphobia in western outlets

In the U.S. JD vance and his supporters are pressuring Usha to convert to Christianity to “fit in.” Yet in India, no Hindu ever forced Sonia Gandhi to abandon Christianity and adopt Hinduism. But the Indian Left still brands Hindus as “intolerant” and calls Christianity “secular.” The hypocrisy is stunning.

Minister @dpradhanbjp we are 142cr people 26 cr in school, 4.3 cr in college. We need innovation at scale not small samples. What a pity that some seem to go ga ga over small success. Please work to bring innovation at scale. Such small experiments will never move the needle. Look at China

NPCI made ~₹1,500 crores in profits on ₹4,000 crores of revenue in 2024–25, with EBITDA margins above 50%. And they did this while spending just ₹210 crores on tech and another ₹290 crores in depreciation. In other words, just ₹500 crores to run UPI, IMPS, NACH, which is basically the entire country’s payments infra. Wildly efficient. ❤️

A note to NRIs, esp Tambrahms. Stop at some logical point and get back here to India. If not, arrange a caretaker for your parents who live alone in India. In case they don't agree, accommodate them in an elder care facility. Visit them atleast once in two years. When your parents turn 75 they begin to deteriorate. 80+ aged parents are so frail that they can't do anything on their own. I interact with many such NRI parents on a daily basis and am writing from what I see. There is enough material for three full fledged novels. You may be arranging Periyava Mandalis or Brahmotsavams in the USA, but the real gods that brought you to this world are languishing. Your $s are less worthy than the adult diapers that your parents struggle to wear by themselves. Amaruvi 08-06-2025
