n a revisionary publication, WII announces the discovery of 13 new species of amphibians from Northeast India. A major stride towards recognising hidden biodiversity, integrating acoustics, genetics and morphology, the study also revisits the status of century-old museum collections from the Indo-Burma region. Based on a large sampling approach covering 81 localities in eight states, including 25 Protected areas, the study also revises the distribution of known species and synonymises four previously described species. The colossal manuscript, comprising more than 100 pages, not only helps solve taxonomic conundrums surrounding the tiny tik.. tik ..frogs of Northeast India, but opens up an opportunity for understanding their hitherto unknown conservation status and ecology. #raorchestes #arunachalpradesh #assam #meghalaya #manipur #nagaland #sikkim #mizoram #biodiversity #biogeography #discovery #evolution #exploration #explorer #fieldwork #frogs #frogsofinsta #frogsofindia #india #museum #natgeo #naturalhistory #newspecies #northeastIndia #anura #systematics #taxonomy #phylogeny #speciesdelineation #acoustics @GobindsagarBha1 @NatGeo @NatGeoUK @Bitupan81035978 @wii_india @moefcc @SACONCoimbatore

@wii_india celebrate the impeccable biodiversity of Arunachal Pradesh with discovery and description of two new species of green fan throated lizard. Formally named after Namdapha Tiger Reserve (Ptyctolaemus namdaphaensis) and Siang river basin (Ptyctolaemus siangensis) from where they were sighted first. This finding also resolved century old mystery regarding distribution of fan throated lizards across evergreen forests of Northeast India. #agamids #arunachalpradesh #assam #biodiversity #biogeography #discovery #evolution #exploration #explorer #fieldwork #lizards #lizardsofinsta #lizardsofindia #india #indoburma #indochina #meghalaya #mizoram #museum #natgeo #naturalhistory #newspecies #nagaland #northeastIndia #Ptyctolaemus #systematics #taxonomy @GobindsagarBha1 @NatGeo, @NatGeoUK, @Bitupan81035978 @DhaarunDina @wii_india

Presented our work "Can taxonomy contribute towards Conservation?" In the 35th annual research seminar of WII. It was the 5th in #WIIARS and secured the best presentation award too (3rd prize) for the second time 🤪 Many thanks to all my well wishers 💕 #wildlifeinstituteofindia
