Beverley Beekeeper's Association (@BkaBev) is warning locals to look for invasive Asian hornet species and report sightings and nests to the National Bee Unit after an Asian hornet was discovered in a trap in the HU9 area on 14th September.

Defra update 15.9.23 48 nests in 40 locations. Essex Active operations in Southend-on-Sea. Kent A nest in Folkestone and a nest in Maidstone. London A nest in Hackney destroyed and removed. Surrey Two nests at a location in Oxted, Surrey. Yorkshire A nest in Hull

As leaves fall Asian/yellow-legged hornet secondary nests can become visible. Nests are rounded and can reach 90cm diameter. Side entrances make them distinctive. They are made of papier-mache and beige coloured. Sometimes found in tree tops 4 -15m high Never approach nests

@JovialJimbo Hi. We would recommend getting in touch with Viking Pest Control in Beverley. We are uninsured where the fabric of the building is involved. We know Viking will attempt to rescue the bees wherever possible.

@BkaBev we have a new swarm in Walkington .. in a brick cavity .. any advice please? Love bees but they’re beeing a bit of a nuisance by our front door !

We are in the midst of a cost of living crisis, I get that. However, I’d rather not eat something’s at all or as an occasional treat than some of the highly processed & dubious products sold so cheaply. Frankly this flavoured sugar water is not honey! #honeyfraud
