Honey that beekeepers collect is the excess that some colonies produce. It can be eaten, wax and all, straight from the comb or it can be extracted from the combs, strained and jarred. #bees #honey #localhoney #nationalhoneyday

A prime swarm caught on the 14th May has already filled 2 supers which I'm now taking off to extract! Still struggling for room in the brood box for the queen to lay so may have to demaree.

This time of year sees a peak in Tree Bumblebee, activity. Unfortunately the quantity of bumblebee nest makes it impossible for honey beekeepers to come out and remove. The Bumblebee Conservation Trust has good information on these bees bumblebeeconservation.org/bumblebee-nest…

@ElmTreeBees I used to use a frame but more often than not they wouldn't lose the swarm instinct. Then I tried without any brood and just some bees shaken in and it worked fine. After all it's a form of artificial swarm and what swarm travels or arrives with any brood?

@yorkshirebees Don't you need the brood to stick the queen to the box?

I'm struggling with my demarees this year. A lot of queens are reluctant to stick around. My question is what do YOU use as your centre frame? Mixed stages? Mostly capped? No young larvae?

Why are we still building thousands of homes with no solar, no heat pumps, basic insulation, no water capture, no grey water recycling? Answer: maximizing profits of developers at expense of our environment & climate.
