Thank you @ColumbusCrew. Loved observing the U18s, meeting with different staff members along with presenting a workshop to all academy staff on Neuroscience and its application into an Academy. It was great to get an insight into Academy football in the USA 🙌🏼⚽️🧠#neuroscience

@kirkkinsey @paulspacey Agree there. The rush to get to 11aside doesn’t really make sense when a lot of those players aren’t technically proficient

@Blake0George @paulspacey I don’t think the designation itself is the problem. It’s exclusively playing U12s as U13s “to get them ready for 11-a-side” & claiming to play up when in reality the level of competition is low By playing U13 they also have 3 more roster spots available that can now be charged

One of the dumbest hustles right now is “Pre-ECNL” & “Pre-MLS Next”. A lot of those kids are getting cut before making the jump Also, coaches are “playing up” in bronze level comps to pad their win records while appearing to do something hard. You guys seeing this elsewhere?

@paulspacey The only time I allow my teams to run up the score however much they want is when we face one of these teams. Presumably we’re giving them what they want—even though the reactions rarely support that 😂

@mattdanaher Unfortunately this is true of players and parents. Education can help, if they are willing to listen. Often it falls on deaf ears.

Most youth players in the U.S. are chasing acronym leagues instead of actual improvement. Actual improvement requires discipline, sacrifice, and a plan. Acronym leagues in social bios give you the dopamine hit without the work

@justinfinck @stewartflaherty The point is that the boys ECNL is second to to MLS Next. Any league (NPL, E64, you name it) can have an outstanding team where players make MLS academies but we’re talking as a comparison between these two as a whole

@Blake0George @stewartflaherty Top 5 teams encl mls next&us nations league including academies for those players on east coast not making Philly or New England make Austin or Nashville no problem,the leagues are all watered down, coaching,player development and scouting is a travesty, but we get it we’re wrong

Huge problem with US Soccer on display here. Simply accept the best players play at national team level or for the MLS franchise clubs on the male side. If you’re recruiting, point out the better individual scenario a player could have based on their level in ECNL or the blurred lines between the top of ECNL and lower levels of MLS Next. To pretend otherwise is commerce driven and actually alters reality in young minds, not a strength. Will also hold back the beloved pro/rel system if people aren’t willing to see a top and bottom of any potential ladder.

@stewartflaherty They’re also trying to create Pre-ECNL at 7v7 here in SoCal to further insulate themselves from the competition which is absolutely outrageous

@stewartflaherty They massively struggle with the issue that their boys league is second fiddle. Look at Jason’s body language whilst Lavers is talking. Says it all.

England’s FA just moved to 3v3 for U7 and 5v5 for U8, U9 and U10 and they don’t start 11v11 until U15. That’s a ⚽️ mad culture. Now what should the US Soccer do for a sport with limited (if any) culture? U8 - 2v2 U9/U10 - 3v3 U11/U12 - 5v5 U13/U14 - 8v8 U15-U18 - 11v11

@paulspacey Not sure how they have the NPL that high. Most of these graphics are made by folks on the East Coast and they don’t really look outside of that, hence the NAL and EDP inclusion

Not sure how accurate this is and like I’ve said before, *someone* has to pay and cover the costs but I’d suggest upwards of 70% of families do NOT get value for money.
