“If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu.” — PM Mark Carney, Davos, January 20, 2026. There are currently no CUSMA meetings scheduled between Canada and the United States, while Mexico has three meetings planned with the U.S. this summer. Let that sink in.
The Food Professor@FoodProfessor

CUSMA warning sign for Canada. According to @globalnews, a third round of detailed 🇲🇽–🇺🇸 negotiations is scheduled for next week, followed by two more meetings in August. U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra confirmed that none are scheduled with 🇨🇦. Mexico is at the table. Canada is still waiting for an invitation. That should concern every Canadian.

About the Gordie Howe Bridge, let’s keep it simple. Trump won—again. Carney lost. Any questions?

@mferreriptbokaw Canadian media is retarded. Carney was there as a host for the final ceremony, same as PM of mexico and Trump. Canadians lose their shit so many times in a day they might as well become the 51st and be done with this. If you cant hold your own, why claim territory?

I fully support Mark Carney attending this. BUT, Mark Carney has a responsibility to stop telling Canadians to boycott the US. Stop name calling people who support our American neighbours. Stop trash talking in one room and hand kissing in another. We need America as an ally, not an enemy. Stop exploiting the hate of Donald Trump for political popularity and start getting results for Canadians. The President will come and go, America will always be our neighbour.

Chinese models are 112x cheaper than Anthropic per million tokens. Chamath laid it out on CNBC: a "barrel of intelligence" costs $56 from Anthropic, $26 from OpenAI, $1.50 from Meta, $1 from xAI and Google, and $0.50 from Chinese models. That is not a pricing quirk. That is the steepest commodity curve any technology has run in recorded history. Oil took 40 years to compress like this. Semiconductors took 20. AI inference is doing it in months. The companies sitting at $26 and $56 are not stupid. They're buying time… betting that trust, safety, and enterprise contracts hold the premium long enough for costs to catch up. What they cannot bet on is the timeline. Because the $0.50 model is not a demo. I've been inside the labs building it.

@HSlifelearner @agupta EB1 is not a visa or a work permit. It is an exemption of labor certification. You still have to show where you would work, besides the visa/aos blocks a govt can use to stop you My eb1 was approved in 2023. A judge determined my work in AI is in US interest. Still in AP.

FYI that America’s moronic visa policy is almost certainly a factor in why Kimi/Moonshot is a Chinese startup and not an American one. The fact that we don’t staple a green card to every AI PhD completed in America is stupid. would be more logical to seize their passports and force them to stay
Russ Salakhutdinov@rsalakhu

Congratulations to Zhilin Yang, founder and CEO of @Kimi_Moonshot, on the latest Kimi release. What a huge win for the open-source community! It feels like just yesterday Zhilin was graduating from my lab at CMU, jointly co-advised with William Cohen. Not only did he complete his Ph.D. in just four years, but he also made truly fundamental contributions to ML during his time at CMU. What a spectacular career! Congrats again Zhilin, and thank you and the entire Kimi team for everything you're doing for the open-source community.

@agupta @HSlifelearner You absolutely do have to worry about it. As an inventor, do I wanna spend time worrying about O1/EB1, visa processing delays, AoS changes by govt, citizenship of my child, denials for my spouse etc? Or would I rather spend this time productively?

@HSlifelearner @BlastPmln it's not that it's impossible the problem is that it's annoying and that does not serve our national interest. it should be trivially easy for anyone with an AI PhD from CMU to be able to stay in america. no strings attached. no job at apple needed.

Exactly! A lot of people argue by saying , “If Allah already knows everything, why make dua?” It’s because your dua may be the very means Allah has chosen for His mercy to reach you. Our prayer is not outside His plan, it is part of it. His knowing it does not eliminate our agency.

This is something that took me a very long time to understand, and it was none other than the great Dr. Israr Ahmad who helped me grasp it. Allah’s knowledge is pre-knowledge, not pre-destination. Time does not exist for the Almighty in the way it does for us. Allah has already seen what every person will freely choose, how each life unfolds, and where it ultimately ends. This is why the Day of Judgment is sometimes described in the Quran in the past tense because it has already been witnessed by Allah. The entire timeline is present before Him all at once; it is not linear from His perspective. This is also why I shared a few days ago that time is, in a sense, an illusion. We experience it as a sequence because we are bound by this dimension of existence, but Allah is not constrained by time. So no, Allah is not choosing your good deeds or your bad deeds for you. Rather, He knows them because His knowledge encompasses the entirety of time and existence. His perfect knowledge of our choices does not negate our free will.
Sara@piousdeenn

A man asked, “Ya Rasool Allah, if everything has already been written, then what is the point of working, choosing, or doing good deeds?”

Few years ago, I went to the Nida Azwer boutique in Lahore. When I chose an outfit to buy and took it to the till, they increased the price by Rs 10,000 — saying the price on the tag was the “old price”. I told them I would malign them in the press and got them to sell it to me at the tagged price — after a long back and forth and after they googled me to confirm I do write — but it left a bitter taste and I never shopped there again.

Recent Sania Maskatiya and Nida Azwer pret campaigns. They are the pinnacle of Pakistani fashion and are cutting corners on the creative process, all while increasing prices.

🇨🇦 PM Carney: "Canada is stepping up to protect ourselves and our allies. And if we're going to deter Russian aggression in the Baltic states and across Europe, if we're going to ensure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, if we're to assert our full sovereignty in the Arctic, and if we're to defend and promote our values — freedom, democracy, peace — we must do so from a position of strength. If we want a stronger world, if we want a safer world, we need a stronger Canada."

@Hazball88 @theLyallpurwala England were waiting in the goal area for him to throw ball after ball. No one in the mid-field trying to keep possession. Could Messi still sneak one in? Sure. But you would need far less luck with this formation.

Every single decision in the last half hour was wrong. Even if you are going to defend surely you just stick someone to Messi and don't let him beat you. Instead they let Messi have all the space and dropped deep

There is a great deal of hubbub about a collective “middle powers”strategy these days. At DoW, we are not concerned that this is a serious possibility. Rather, we are more concerned that a few allies and partners will *think it is* and waste valuable time, money, and political capital on a distraction. 1/

@TristinHopper Canada never really optimized use of its resources because it never had to. But a country of 30 million with vast resources cant defend itself today. For the first time, it needs to do 101 optimization of resources and it's finding it hard.

@Bratt_world That's an important data point. But law enforcement in Canada is generally weak. There are Indian gangs in Alberta and BC that law enforcement fails to apprehend. Judges are also too soft on crime.
