Blessings in a Backpack is proud to help kids across the country head into Saturday and Sunday with food they can count on and showing them they have a community that cares for them.

Full bags, big smiles and the simple joy of knowing kids have the nutrition they need when school is out.

Sometimes the smallest notes say the biggest things. Every bag of weekend food represents time and care from people who show up for kids each week. Because of that support, weekends look different and Mondays feel a little brighter. And kids notice.

School-aged children need around 1,200–2,200 calories each day to support their growth. But for many kids, the school weekend can mean uncertainty around food. #NationalNutritionMonth That’s why Blessings in a Backpack provides bags of kid-friendly, shelf-stable food on Fridays.

Volunteered with @DukeEnergy coworkers this week packing extra bags of food for spring break for more than 140 students in need at Scribner Middle School. The Duke Energy Foundation is proud to support Blessings in a Backpack Floyd County, with a grant.

Protein is essential for growing bodies, and experts recommend that school-aged children get 10-30% of their daily calories from protein. Blessings in a Backpack is ensuring kids get the nutrients they need to stay strong, learn, and thrive—every weekend.
