In solemn remembrance of Master Gunnery Sergeant Juan Valdez—the last Marine to depart Vietnam as Saigon fell. Valdez was laid to rest this week at the Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.
His service marked the final chapter of the Marine Corps’ long and difficult involvement in Vietnam. Today we honor his life and the sacrifice of all Marines who served there, and extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones.
