The Nutty Putty map in Cave Crave is about as close to a documentary as you can get in games… you explore a near perfect recreation of the cave in VR with audio recordings of the history of it, including and mainly focusing on the infamous fatal spelunk by John Edward Jones. The idea of a documentary game is fun to consider. There are, for instance, playable “making ofs” that are sort of hybrid “director commentaries” that I think qualify, Braid has such a mode. I think there are also mechanics that could qualify as documentary. Racing games like F-Zero have “staff ghosts” that allow you to race a perfect recording of a developer’s run. As gaming evolves and grows richer and denser, these sort of recordings can give us a glimpse into a past that we might soon forget. In that vein, something like Meat Boy that allows you to see recordings of all your previous runs are sort of a real-time documentary. While this and the “staff ghost” are basically video recordings (the way a movie would be), the fact that you are able to, for example, race against this “video” in real time adds a dimensionality to it… you are able to put yourself in their shoes and ponder their ability and choices in a way that is unique to games. To anybody reading this, are there any mechanics or games you’d consider “documentary?”

Really looking for anyone with bottle baby experience who could take on up to five 11-day old kittens (or two 3 week old kittens). Things with mama Shiva are just not stabilizing & she is now neglecting the kittens. I had to step in. I am beyond capacity, exhausted, overwhelmed.

I don’t think you guys understand what kind of cute kittens we have growing up around here right now. Thistle & Thorn will be 6 weeks on Monday, and Lal & Data will be 9 weeks old tomorrow.

I hope that there is—or that there will eventually be—an option to race in the Grand Prix with more closed-circuit format (I understand that some tracks are designed exclusively to be open-road format). Regardless, I'd play the shit out of this game if I had my way.

I'll share with you an "old man yells at cloud" moment about Mario Kart World. I was able to play GP mode at a friend's place over the weekend (a birthday celebration, indeed). I'm sure that if I owned the game, I'd play it for hours. I'm a sucker for open-world driving games.
