Leaving the hearing on @rstormsf's motion for acquittal, the only thing that was clear to me is that the government still does not understand the tech at issue. The lack of nuance, the misrepresentations about how a UI functions, and the equivocation between different technologies is really disheartening at this point in the case. The arguments SDNY advanced at this hearing on the application of Section 1960 are limitless and dangerous for all software developers. It was good to see the judge digging in and asking detailed questions, but there is no way to predict how she will rule on Storm's motion. Given that she was focused on dates for retrial at end of 2026, I think we can expect to see the case continue.

🚨 UPDATES: JUDGE HAS NOT MADE UP HER MIND The Court convened for over 3 hours, but the judge ultimately did not come to a decision on whether Roman Storm should be acquitted, stating that she had not yet made up her mind. Most importantly, the judge indicated early on that she was not convinced of the defense's first amendment arguments. The following discussion was based around the definition of an "overt act" as well as on the question of venue: Does using NYC-based Infura hosting give SDNY jurisdiction over Storm's alleged criminal conduct if the hosting itself was not alleged to be part of the crime? Do inaction or failure to act constitute behavior in furtherance of a criminal conspiracy? Overall, Judge Failla asked much detailed questions of both sides. Whether Storm's motion for acquittal will be granted remains to be seen.

5 years in LA came to a close today. I moved to Cali in the middle of the pandemic - fresh out of college after living with my parents trying to figure my life out. It was right before the golden bull run of 2021 - and I can confidently say that era was unlike anything I've ever seen or probably will see again. Being in LA during that time was surreal - everyone wanted to learn about crypto and I found myself in this epic intersection between tech and culture in a way I could never have imagined. When it all came back to reality I was fortunate to be able to pursue my ambitions with music to their highest extreme. I started a fund, and then a record label - both geared at bringing artists onchain and connecting the two worlds together. As time went on - I found that the crypto part wasn't as captivating as it once was and instead I needed to figure out how to make music ownership viable in the absence of NFTs, memecoins or any other gimmicks that lacked longevity or substance beyond speculation. And that's what brought me to Tokyo - an innate feeling that the music scene here can be something to build a foundation on the back of. A place to build real community and culture and bring things onchain with the right ideals and values in mind. So here's to everyone that made LA so special. I will never forget this chapter and can't wait to start a fresh one. If you ever find yourself in Tokyo - hit me up and I promise I got a show for you that will blow your mind 🫡

Proud for @1kxnetwork to lead the pre-seed for @justinmujin to build @giggles_app, a new social network that explores the intersection between video discovery and financialization. I first discovered Giggles organically on TikTok and immediately reached out to see how well Justin had already grasped the core affordances of crypto in reshaping relationships and communities with financialization. We spent a lot of time over several months building a relationship and concluded that we should work together. Today, I'm proud to share our partnership publicly and am incredibly excited to watch them execute in the near term with their launch.
