My most liberal opinion is that police car chases are almost never worth the risk they impose on innocent drivers and bystanders. Open to having my mind changed, but unless it’s a very dangerous criminal they’re chasing I just don’t think it’s worth it.

I really hate the “no person who works a full-time job should live in poverty” discourse. It should simply be that nobody deserves to live in poverty. We have to let go of the idea that we work in exchange for our worth. People are innately worthy and deserving of the basics.

@dissidentwest I don’t know police protocol around this but it seems an error to think of it as the police choosing when to chase. The police choose to pull someone over, and the driver chooses when to flee. Wouldn’t a zero-chase policy just mean they can’t pull anyone over?

You are assuming that sans pursuit, these criminals won’t drive dangerously, but in reality they will be extremely reckless and put hundreds of people in jeopardy, usually in a stolen vehicle. We could just allow cops to shoot reckless drivers on sight and that solves your problem AND mine.

Just a friendly warning. We don’t even make $200k per year in Congress despite working nearly 140 days. If we aren’t properly compensated, a lot of us will go to the private sector and you will be left with some real idiots in Congress.

Managing all the 5 kids is a tremendous challenge. Asking someone to watch 4 children overnight is a massive ask and it's inconsiderate when they've got their own kids

@tpru22 @RealPostFolder My sister told me to swallow a bullet when I needed to slightly inconvenience her by having my mom come stay with me for two weeks. My mom is the only family member she can still leverage access to her kids for care with.

@RealPostFolder I would do this for my siblings. They would do this for me. My parents took in my cousins when my aunt and uncle died. And my aunt and uncle would have taken me and my siblings in if the reverse happened. Gotta be there for your family when things get tough.
