Development charges on new housing pay for roads, sewers, parks and other important infrastructure we all rely on. But they also add to the cost of building new housing. On May 1, development charges were going to increase. But today at Council we froze them. We’ve already waived development charges for 8,000 rental homes in exchange for affordable units. But we can only do so much. With more infrastructure funding from other levels of government, we could reduce these charges even more.
