If you are supporting Graham Platner because “he’s the nominee,” you’re no better than the Republicans who fall in line behind Trump. You’re also a perfect example of why people like me don’t want to be Democrats anymore.

The backbiting from people in some of these articles comes off as DC political consultants and their allies just being mad they aren’t getting the money. Some of this is concerning but I think there are ulterior motives at play.
tré easton@treeaston

A lot of the defense of Ken Martin sounds a great deal like the Biden loyalists crowing after Dems beat expectations in ‘22. “We keep winning so everything must be fine” is not the energy we need from the DNC heading into the midterms and a competitive presidential primary.

BREAKING: in recent weeks, some DNC members have privately discussed trying to force Chair Martin out of the job, according to three people familiar with these conversations. The idea was put on hold after members failed to identify an alternative candidate willing to step into the role. scoop from @Lauren_V_Egan thebulwark.com/p/new-drama-in…

@cynbusch the turnout bump was actually fairly mild in the general, and may have reflected the midterm more than Gillum but factor that in and add in Graham securing more cross-over ballots (we likely see quiet a bit of Scott-Graham voters between Senate/Gov) - she wins for sure

@BlueFL_Dems30 @mattyglesias And, as I said, what happens to black turnout with no black candidate for Governor. You probably remember how he was talked up as a future presidential candidate. Again, how many voters would there have been who voted Rick Scott but Gwen Graham for Governor?

Nominating Gillum over Graham in the 2018 Florida governor’s race was a pretty big mistake in retrospect.

@churroallie @mattyglesias Graham would have probably done better among white voters and would not have motivated Cubans to come out in such strong numbers due to the socialist label. But there isn’t a guarantee she’d be able to get enough non Cuban Hispanics to turn out for her or get the..

@mattyglesias She ran a lazy campaign on her last name and lost as she bet her last name alone would save her. But it didn’t. Also, no Gillum, what happens to black turnout? Really, how many voters in FL voted for DeSantis but would have voted for Gwen Graham? All in all, same result.

How the #FL09 is changed in the new redistricting map Hispanic areas are carved out and heavily white rural counties are added in. Far less compact, adds to county splits, and takes the district from 50% Hispanic to 36%. Not race neutral, not compact. DeSantis lies #flapol

The autopsy probably says it was the economy, bad media coverage of Biden being old, and relentless negativity from even the left, on Palestine and otherwise, that made Americans both think Dems failed in all respects, and that they were associated with the far left.
Hutch@hutchinson

As I understand things, the online left believes that the DNC autopsy would reveal that Gaza was the reason Kamala lost. They seem to *want* this to be true. That is odd to me because I’m not sure why any rational person with a moral center would want credit for Trump winning.

I want to take this in good faith. I think Matthew and I are starting from the same core principle. We want Democrats to win because we see Trump as a real threat to the country. And we both want less rigidity and more compromise in how Democrats operate politically. Where we diverge is the moral calculus. I think he’s landing on the idea that if Jewish groups let this tattoo go in order to secure more Democratic power in the Senate, that’s a net win. I don’t agree. I think I’m taking a longer view of the party. Can Democrats win in five years if we keep alienating Jewish voters? I don’t think so. And I don’t think the reasons Jews are upset right now are unreasonable. Yes, it’s a relatively small voting bloc. But anyone who’s worked on a campaign or done fundraising understands how important this network is. Canvassing, phone banking, legal support. These are high impact contributors to Democratic infrastructure. If Jewish voters shift meaningfully toward Republicans, the party is significantly weaker. Full stop. I think Matthew and I would probably agree that the current strategy for fighting antisemitism isn’t working. There is some value in calling it out and shaming it, but that is reactive. It is firefighting. The deeper issue is the information warfare being waged around Israel, and there is no coherent, effective counter strategy from major Jewish organizations. On the tattoo itself, I think the reaction is entirely reasonable. If a Democratic candidate had an Elliot Rodger tattoo, women would expect the party to replace that candidate. If someone had a Matthew Shepard torture reference tattooed on them, LGBT voters would expect the same. This is worse. It is directly tied to imagery used by people who organized and carried out the Holocaust. Making a voter base feel heard and respected is basic political competence. And right now, I think the Democratic Party is failing to do that with Jews.
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

@CharlesFLehman Gotcha. That makes sense, intense focus on the tattoos is basically in line with the ongoing meltdown of the American Jewish establishment’s ability to engage in politics constructively as the overall situation gets worse and worse.
