@IveyBrooks Who knows man. I’d be happy for him either way.
But starting a masters at Duke and probably getting paid more wouldn’t be that crazy. And I don’t think it would really hurt his nba chances the following year. He’d likely be in the same position professionally either way

This Duke team may actually be the only team I can remember in years that doesn’t have a singular breaking point, meaning a player who if they get hurt disqualifies a team from having a chance at a title
It becomes very tough without certain guys, but maybe not impossible

@GreighWard We have a very good Junior center coming in and now an elite 7 foot recruit that can cover minutes at the 5

But there would remain an outside chance to go on a run.

The way games are officiated and played in the US is the main reason IMO.
The US youth game values physicality and aggression so much. You can’t blame coaches for coaching to the game they’re given

listen…i know the whole “the rest of the world has caught up with us in basketball” convo is a touchy subject and i don’t fully agree with that. BUT, when it comes to BIGS it’s a real conversation. truth is truth.

The beauty is I think he’s CAPABLE. He is a PF and will be used as such. But with Pat having an injury history it’s nice having 2 real bodies that can play Center in case Pat misses time
Add in a 3rd with Meyer if he doesn’t redshirt, or even Iffy and we have a real backup plan

If Meyer wanted major PT, he’d have gone elsewhere.
Not every kid cares about the same stuff.
Some have 2-3-4 year plans. Some want a championship more than anything. Evaluating these kids based on YOUR values is pointless, because they are deciding based upon their own

Interesting I wonder if now Maxime Meyer will de-commit from Duke? They can't really play all of these bigs (Meyer, Boumtje Boumtje and Ngonga) Duke has too many guys..not enough playing time for them all Even in the backcourt - how will their be enough mins, ball handling reps & shot attempts for Rippey, Foster, Blackwell & Boozer? How can all of these guys play (who I just listed) plus Dame Sarr, Bryson Howard, Cameron Williams and Sebastian Wilkins? There already wasn't enough mins last season for Wilkins - idk why he didn't transfer out

If they played a game tonight, UF is who I’m taking.
But I think there’s a lot more potential growth on the side of the blue devils. If Duke can find another star in Boozer, Rippey or Williams to compliment Pat and Blackwell, it gets really scary

It’s also so valuable as the rules between sports are so inconsistent.
If a baseball or volleyball player even steps between the lines once they can’t redshirt while FB players can play a huge chunk of the year.

I’m a big fan of the ‘5 in 5’ Phantom 6th and 7th years of eligibility are incredibly stupid While I would prefer ‘4 in 5’, it’s cleaner this way (no need for NCAA to make rulings on redshirts, you get 5 years no matter what) I also think not starting this offseason is best
