@TorranceCoste Yes though I wasn't positive where the page was so thanks for resurfacing it. Will try to digest the fundamental points more thoroughly for the call-in 👍

@alexisohanian How can this policy be rectified with his goal of Twitter being the 'most accurate source of information on the Internet'? Information can be negative just as much as it can be positive, and suppressing one side clearly biases Twitter as a source.

This is an important distinction I've been talking about for years and happy to see. Social media has 100% control over who they give reach & legitimacy to and should be judicious.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

New Twitter policy is freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach. Negative/hate tweets will be max deboosted & demonetized, so no ads or other revenue to Twitter. You won’t find the tweet unless you specifically seek it out, which is no different from rest of Internet.

America’s decisions, good or bad, affect our country and the entire world. The four years of Trump’s presidency that we’ve already endured were a blight on the entire planet.

We were hoping Quest Pro might make it easier to do this research more often and in a more cost effective way—always always always with consent from their research participants. 😊🙏🙌

Meta's new #QuestPro tracks your hands and eyes to animate avatars. Our team @Shopify wondered if the same tech could give merchants insight into shopping patterns within their store… Could VR give retailers a fresh perspective? 🧵👇 #vr #passthrough #futureofretail

#Pakistan is centre stage at #COP27 . The country’s devastating floods, clearly linked to climate change, will be Exhibit A for those pushing for “loss and damage,” aka climate reparations

@gekido The idea that Twitter would intentionally not make ads as targeted to unpaid users is wild. Is having ads shown to the 'wrong' people knowingly something advertisers are looking for?

@tonycoxphoto Anyway just wanted to raise a less orthodox perspective on things for discussion's sake but understand Twitter won't be the place to make a strong case. Appreciate your points though and thanks for humoring my thesis

@tonycoxphoto This being a theoretical goal more than a specific reality makes it hard but like I said, impartial discovery mechanisms like the channel guide on your TV for shows, Google's original pagerank for websites, the App Store (pre-ads obv) for apps were avenues to products without ads

There's nothing inherently wrong with ads as a business model, and they're mostly accepted by users when they are necessary for viability (e.g. broadcast TV). But when you jam them in to a business that was working fine without them, you're degrading your product for bad reason.

@tonycoxphoto I would return to your original tweet though and ask why you find the inclusion of ads in a successful product distasteful - from your argument aren't they beneficial to your shopping habit and helping businesses? Why wouldn't you want ads in your app store, web searches, etc?

@tonycoxphoto I understand that there are few remaining impartial discovery mechanisms (consumer reports, store shelves, etc) but from a philosophical perspective they're much healthier for a free market economy than advertising.

@tonycoxphoto Which represents more perfect competition: a supermarket where a brand can pay to have their cereal in a custom display at the front with others in the back, or one where each brand get equal space on the shelf? The latter produces choices based on merit; the former on capital.

@JonVirtual @AntonHand's reason plus the culture-washing that museums and art galleries are doing for Oil & Gas companies by accepting large sums in return for brand presence. Note that Monet isn't alive & so isn't a target of any protests (nor are his works being damaged in the process)

Funny/strange that people are destroying/damaging art in protest of oil/climate etc. Is it because of oil paints? Seems more effective to glue yourself to a tanker. But also more dangerous. But come on. Monet didn’t have much of a carbon footprint!

@AnjaliApp Healthy Climate Plan ? - Canada 1.5% global emissions & because we live in a cold climate. Carbon taxes are punitive to middle & lower classes unable to afford food and homes and driving them into the streets. Carbon taxes do nothing to lower emissions & just virtual flag waving.

Today, in front of the famous unmoored barge that drifted across the Burrard Inlet during the unprecedented atmospheric river last November, & under smoke-choked skies, we announced the second plank of our New Deal for BC: our Healthy Climate Plan. 🧵/1
