Winning awards doesn’t make you a movie star. A movie star is someone whose movies make money at the box office. And it has to be movies that aren’t tied to a franchise/remakes/nostalgia bait/popular IP.

@marBr04644288 @AfricanKhaIeesi Kevin hart only has had one theatrical release this decade. It's borderlands and it flopped. The rocks last 2 movies flopped.

@NINETIESWITCH @AfricanKhaIeesi You're getting roasted because you're definition of a movie is extremely unrealistic and no one could pass this ridiculous standard.

@AfricanKhaIeesi Ok so it’s not just my tweet. These motherfuckers just wanna fight and wax fandom hysteria bc they don’t know what a movie star is! And then gall to insinuate people who know the definition are stupid. Wow.

@Bmk6971 @AfricanKhaIeesi Well they aren't exactly movie stars though Maybe in their youth, they're critically acclaimed and renowned actors though

@SpiderLynk Project Hail Mary would’ve been a hit with many other actors because it was very popular book.

@CeHache91 It wasn't a very good show and it killed the rugrats brand. Spongebob and fairly odd parents are now more associated with nickelodeon than the rugrats. It took the entire appeal of the show away and turned it into as told by ginger.

@NINETIESWITCH @voteholt Scarlett Johansson is a movie star. By your definition movie stars practically never existed.

Literally everyone in marvel in is a flop outside of Scarlett Johansson. None of them are movie stars, and she has had success before, during and after the MCU. None of the Chris’s had it like that. In fact, the directors who hailed MCU the “death of cinema” were right!
Me@KirkWrites79

Ryan Gosling just had his 1st hit as a lead this weekend since LA LA LAND. We are not hearing that he might go away. Chris Hemsworth has never been the lead of a hit movie. Ever. I enjoy both of them as actors. But Kevin Hart has more box office clout. We just don’t hear that.

@pri61684 @braindeadbasil @NINETIESWITCH Bruce willis was in a string of flops between die hard 2 and pulp fiction. Nic cage was in several flops. Even Schwarzenegger had flops. Stallone was mostly flops outside rocky and rambo.

Nonsense. Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis, Cage were getting bank in the 1990s... $10-20m a movie and making consistent movies. It's ever since 2011 when IPs were in full swing, that MCU actors became locked into these movies with hardly any space to make anything else. An MCU contract means at least 3 sequels, small roles in spin-offs and various cameos and extended promotion. The other studios are doing IP projects which means mature actors are literally bouncing from IP to the next, they can't get a consistent run of original movies unless they go to streaming. Would a movie like this year's The Wrecking Crew starring Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa from Amazon Prime get a wide cinema release instead of straight to streaming? The studios wouldn't have confidence in releasing it on a wide release, unlike 2006, when a $100m buddy buddy action movie would be a slam dunk at the box office.

@NINETIESWITCH @sunchick8 @braindeadbasil You're definition of movie star is the unicorn has to be consistently profitable in non ip movies. You're talking about box office draw. Every single movie star has had flops. By your definition leo dicaprio and tom cruise aren't movie stars.

@NINETIESWITCH @draw82 Then robert deniro wasn't a movie star in the 80s and 90s and neither was Meryl Streep. Brad pitt and Bruce willis wouldn't have been considered movie stars because they had a string of flops in the 90s and so did julia roberts. Byd burt Reynolds was biggest 70s movie star.

@wandasattorney All of them except Holland were prominent and had their breakouts before the MCU, and being a good actor is not the same thing as being a star.

@wandasattorney @wandanons2 Most people don't even remember wunmi's role in the mcu. Mbj benefitted from only needing to do one movie. Zendaya plays a supporting role.

Pedro was in like 5 movies last year, he’s in a Star Wars movie this year and an Avengers movie how does that not qualify him as a movie star ijbol, not to mention Zendaya, Florence Pugh, and MBJ are all in that picture…the only one you could argue isn’t is Wunmi but she’s an Oscar nominee 😭😭😭

@BORReport That march was the first to ever have 3 movies cross $100 million. Tmnt was first non summer opening to top $20 million in opening weekend. The oscars were in late march and movies usually didn't home video until 6-12 months after theaters which is why oscar boosts were bigger.
