@DPJHodges If the markets really went into meltdown at the prospect of Reeves's departure, it'll be because they fear her replacement would be even worse.

Seen a lot of people spinning the line "look at the financial markets. That shows they have confidence in Rachel Reeves!". OK. But if that's the metric you're using, they had greater confidence in Truss/Kwarteng and Sunak/Hunt than they do Starmer/Reeves.

@Euro_toff @trussliz As a result of Brexit we've just received a 10% competitive edge over the EU in terms of exporting to the US...

@trussliz JFC One of the main selling points of Brexit was to get a free trade deal with the USA,why didn't you negotiate that instead of signing the worst trade deal in British history with Australia Nutjob

Britain should do a trade deal with the US. But do not underestimate how hard the globalist, pro-EU Whitehall Blob will fight it. I saw this when I negotiated the UK-Australia free trade deal. All kinds of objections were raised and delaying tactics were used by the Blob and their allies in the Cabinet. Everything from threats to environment, animal welfare and the NHS were bandied about. We got the deal done. None of the ludicrous predictions came true. Yet the carping in the legacy media continues. Is Starmer up for the fight? Sadly, I doubt it.

@DPJHodges Doesn't his move now give the UK the most competitive edge as an import provider to the US of any major economy?

@DPJHodges Starmer and his cabinet are obviously not up to the job and the economy will suffer But labour deserves a chance to govern. Is there someone in the Labour Party with a vision that can make socialism and business grow together for the benefit of the country If so who 🤔🤔🤔

@DPJHodges @minnymoaner You need to look at their % margins, not their bottom line profit. That's what dictates whether they can afford a certain % increase in costs or not.

@DPJHodges Fair point, but I'm not sure that'll work all that well when the budget leads to mass capital flight instead of said benefits

@nurseybird1 @BethRigby @MailOnline @Keir_Starmer @UKLabour How about someone who is a shareholder in their own business, and grafts to make that business money for them to live off? Why aren't they "working people" just because they work for their own business instead of someone else's?

@BethRigby @MailOnline I'm a landlord Beth. The money I now earn from rent isn't grafted for in the way it was when I did shifts. It's not hard to understand. Nobody likes paying tax but my country's in a mess and I've got broader shoulders than some. Just do good with it @Keir_Starmer @UKLabour

@FisherAndrew79 "Working people" is what they said, not "working class", and the problem is that your definition (which seems perfectly reasonable) doesn't seem to match Labour's (which doesn't).

@SASR666 Well for example let's take an electrician who set up their own business, and works every day to generate income for the business, and gets their income by taking dividends from their business. Are they a working person? I'd say yes, but I'm not sure Labour agree.

A working person is someone who relies on their income from working, not through savings and wealth. Why is this so difficult to understand. What am I missing??

@RatherBeCyclin @Steven_Swinford Not really. That "subsidy" was more than offset by the subsidy of the state education system that parents who choose to send their kids to non-state schools still pay for through their taxes, but don't use.

@Steven_Swinford It's really removing a dodgy exemption though, isn't it - that the rest of us were effectively subsidising. Seems fair.

@ItsMatt_Again I agree, but I can't help but remember the BBC interviewing pensioners worriedly saying they were going to freeze to death next winter when Theresa May proposed this same policy in her 2017 manifesto. Where are those interviews now?

Attention #Brexiters !!! Are YOU outranged by the new plastic attached lids on bottles? Don’t be! Your MEP can raise the issue for you and ensure your voice is heard on this vital matter - that’s what being part of the EU is all about!! 🤦🏻‍♂️ oh yeah - you got rid of that so the U.K. now has to accept whatever EU standards are imposed on us 🤣 #Brexit #BrexitHasFailed #RejoinEU

@ArchRose90 Quite so. He knew the oath he would have to take when he stood for election as an MP. If he didn't want to take the oath he shouldn't have put himself forward for election to the commons.

Delighted to see that following a complaint to the Clerk of the House of Commons, Labour MP Clive Lewis has been forced to retake his affirmation of allegiance. The right decision, the attention seeking was juvenile and not what we should expect from an MP.
