I am sorry, but as an American this makes no sense to me. I know Kenya has a great health infrastructure and can do this - the question is WHY did they agree to this. Would be interested to know what kind of pressure or concessions the US government made to convince the Kenyan government

“We are going to allow Ebola patients into Kenya because, during the COVID-19 period, we had thousands of patients coming to Kenya for quarantine from all over the world,” Health PS Oluga says, adding that Kenya will receive Ebola patients just as Kenyans seek cancer treatment abroad.

The United States has approved an additional $80 million for the Ebola outbreak response. This will help procure and deliver additional PPE for healthcare workers in high-risk areas; enhance border screenings and surveillance at key points of entry; expand contact tracing to identify and diagnose individuals as early as possible; and procure diagnostic supplies including test kits.

We should really be thinking about this independently beyond our political stands There is no justification to import an outbreak in a country that has never reported a single case of Ebola

Beyond politics, the move by the US to consider Kenya as a quarantine and monitoring zone for Ebola exposure is a significant nod of confidence in Kenya’s public healthcare surveillance systems, emergency response preparedness and broader healthcare infrastructure. You cannot handle a disease like Ebola without robust disease surveillance, laboratory capacity, trained healthcare personnel, isolation protocols and effective coordination between government agencies. The fact that Kenya is even being considered reflects how far the country has come in strengthening its public health systems over the years. Kenya has quietly built one of the strongest infectious disease response networks in the region. Despite having porous borders, the country has largely managed to contain cross-border Ebola threats through surveillance, screening and rapid response mechanisms. With institutions like the Kenya National Public Health Institute and KEMRI, alongside partnerships with CDC and WHO, and sustained investments in epidemiology and laboratory science, Kenya is increasingly positioning itself as a regional health security hub. The US would not outsource sensitive infectious disease operations to a country it considers incapable. So, despite the challenges facing the healthcare sector, Kenyans should recognize that the country possesses institutional public health strengths that are increasingly earning global recognition.

Mr Speaker Sir 🙋‍♀️, Since State House is a "protected area", I propose that the US-imported Ebola patients be quarantined there so they can also be prayed for by our national healer, the one who once turned dirty water into Dasani. That way, if anything goes wrong, the rest of the country will remain safe because the area is heavily protected. As many as are of that opinion say “Aye.”

The US is protecting its citizens. Why isn't Kenya? Quarantine them in the US military base in Lamu, not our hospitals!

You know what is ironic? The moment the first Ebola case is reported in Kenya, the same United States pushing plans linked to quarantining exposed individuals here will likely be among the first countries to issue a travel advisory warning its citizens against visiting Kenya.

We must really strongly condemn and refuse the entry of any Ebola patients into our borders … if a super power with all its resources is refusing its own citizens back who are we to accept them through our borders ?

@Asamoh_ What is wrong with you @Asamoh_ there are things that can be political and things that are not. The Ebola issue is beyond who is in control.. no way can we have a quarantine facility for a foreign nation in our land
