@bloodmute @Zilnado @Anarseldain Great example. The right looks like shit without an identity or any coherent art direction. Thanks.
English

@Bobsdplissken @Zilnado @Anarseldain "Ah, yes, my friends. I shall watch as you twist into a pretzel!"

English

@Zilnado @Anarseldain The Skyrim modding community actually has some of worst of the mentality I was describing. I did a blind test once and it was interesting watching people twist themselves into pretzels after learning they preferred the vanilla SE scenes over the modded ones.
English

@Bobsdplissken @Anarseldain The Bethesda RPGs get some really good ones but man I remember looking through the HD shit for the Resident Evil Remake and they were ALL just fucking atrocious. Like just fucking obliterated everything.
English

@lporiginalg Wignats frame this as some sort of moral victory but it's just hypergamy in action. The former USSR holds some painful lessons about what your women will do if they are displaced culturally and economically.
English

@tylerblack32 Nobody gets hooked on pain meds from hospital exposure. That's not a thing that happens but it dominates the public consciousness to the point of affecting people who SHOULD know better, like doctors. Addiction is largely a lifestyle, it doesn't sneak up on you.
English

Opioids work very well for pain; despite having excellent (but mildly costly) prescribing & deprescribing protocols that work, every system will avoid using them while their patients cry in pain.
Every second someone is needlessly suffering due to irrational fear of a compound.
Dr. AK 🇮🇳@docakx
Hit me with a harsh medical fact.
English

@obamanomicon @zetalyrae It's not over prescribed. That's the thing. The entire commentary is by people who have extremely strong opinions on a topic they actually don't know *anything* about. Its a reaction motivated in large part by the suspicion that another crab in the bucket is getting a leg up.
English

@zetalyrae People hate on doctors for over prescribing and I'm sure it's hurt some people but like holy shit it's so important
English

Being off methylphenidate for a month, and coming back, makes me feel very vindicated for putting the "get your brain chemistry under control" section front and center.
Fernando 🌺🌌@zetalyrae
I wrote 8k words on how to manage ADHD
English

@zetalyrae Anti drug people are just Luddites. Worse actually, because usually they're hawking a bunch of dogshit supplements that don't work, and in some cases are, ironically, less safe than the scary ADHD stimulants.
English

@bmitori Nerds get upset by the reality that is often as simple as being able to shoot more accurately and change positions more rapidly than the other guy. Similar parallels in martial arts.
English

@ValDela1984 @sin__tax @cremieuxrecueil Pretty much anytime you see a post from a psychologist on here you can dismiss it out of hand. They poo poo drugs because they a) can't prescribe and b) the drugs often work unlike endless therapy billing sessions.
English

@sin__tax @cremieuxrecueil Nonsense. Plenty of things don’t work for depression. Very bizarre claim. The effect sizes of SSRIs, especially for moderate/severe depression is much better than many other interventions.
English

Trump seems to have pretty good instincts for understanding medicines, vaccines, etc.
For example, here he's saying he's surprised to hear antidepressants don't work that well.
And he's right, because they are extremely effective. Even if you halved their effects they would be.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar
Trump: "I was surprised to hear about the antidepressants. I assume they'd be better. That's not very good. So Bobby, you're gonna push it hard?"
English

@quinde_jeffrey @u_m_a_m_i You can do whatever you want. But if it's shit we don't have to like it. And this is definitely shit.
English

@u_m_a_m_i Lord forbid a director do something different with the camera for once lol
English

What even is this camera work? It looks like janky 3rd person perspective from a videogame.
Stunna ⛧@wentsickomode
Superman (2025)
English

@u_m_a_m_i Everything I see from this movie is the visual equivalent of nails on chalkboard. Excruciating to watch.
English

@d3vp0ll @anymanfitness @OrwellNGoode That's about 5lbs a year. That's actually significant. People are always dismissing caloric expenditure as being too small to worry about without considering the additive effect, which, ironically, is also how people get fat.
English

@anymanfitness @OrwellNGoode Strength training’s advantage is only modest. A pound of muscle burns approximately 6–10 calories per day at rest. If you gained 5 lbs of muscle — which takes months — that’s only 30–50 extra calories daily. That’s not nothing but it’s not a game changer for fat loss either.
English

@Ruesavatar Steve buscemi could do this same bit and you would be disturbed.
English

Oh so he literally IS Aragorn. I understand now. Also, why aren’t all the men trying to emulate him? A generation of Tates when Viggo is RIGHT THERE. Tell a woman a horse is your real best friend and watch her panties evaporate. Fools.

@Gnedfludap @Rothmus I hate to break it to you but autism is overwhelmingly genetic in origin. Not being "born with it" is normal because regression doesn't become apparent until about 18 months. Your dad is probably autistic and unaware because his symptoms are benign in intensity. Many such cases.
English

@Rothmus I have autism, but my parents say I wasn't born with it. When I was 5 my doctor diagnosed me with a ton of mental illnesses for normal kid behavior. At worst, I might have had ADHD. He put me on drugs that screwed up my brain chemistry, and they say that's how I developed autism.
English

@i9241 @KarolusWangus Olympic athletes use steroids because they increase strength and strength is useful in a broad range of athletic events. I'm growing impatient with repeating myself. Steroids do nothing for recovery - mediated by the CNS - and increase injury risk due to effects on tendons.
English

@Bobsdplissken @KarolusWangus It's not post facto rationalising. Why do you think Olympic athletes use steroids for? It is primarily a fatigue and injury recovery tool. You can train and perform much more than normal with steroids.
English

Which reminds me, because one of you beautiful autists might actually know: when *did* PEDs become the rule in elite-light-infantry units? At some point the jump was made, but I have no clue when or how.
Special Ops Magazine@specialopsmag
Delta Force in the 1980's, when Tier 1 guys were indistinguishable from suburban dads. No tattoo sleeves or PED enhanced muscles. They could literally blend in anywhere.
English

@i9241 @lindyview @KarolusWangus No they do not. There are many studies showing anabolic steroids either have no effect or may DECREASE vo2max. Lance was on a number of different types of drugs, not just steroids. Doping refers primarily to the use of EPO - which does increase vo2max.
English

@lindyview @Bobsdplissken @KarolusWangus Yes it does. Steroids will increase your Vo2 max. Why do you think Lance Armstrong was doping for?
English

@i9241 @KarolusWangus Because more muscle = more power and most sports benefit. If you put on 5kg muscle and lose 5kg fat, your weight has not changed but you are significantly more efficient.
English

@Bobsdplissken @KarolusWangus If this was true why do Olympic athletes take steroids for?
English

@i9241 @KarolusWangus The whole "actually it's about fatigue" canard started from bodybuilders downplaying the role of anabolic drugs in their results, and "it just lets you train harder" was the right spin response to a culture that insisted that success must entail suffering/toil.
English

@i9241 @KarolusWangus Like I said, post facto rationalizing. What's the ergogenic benefit of beards and tatts? Also: not even true. Anabolic steroids significantly increase the risk of tendon injury and increase oxidative stress. Just because AAS users say things doesn't make it true.
English
