Offensive struggles led to the defense being on the field too long and giving up too much yardage. Lincoln is a really good team led by a big senior class. We were unable to match their physicality, which led to them churning out yards on the ground all game. Their big running back was tough to handle and he ran really well behind a big offensive line. I’m really proud of our team for fighting and making it a battle as long as they could. Our seniors have set the ground work for what we hope is a successful future in this program.”

Prep Football Mount Vernon 22, Stanwood 13 The MV Bulldogs secured the tight victory in a rainy game against a very physical run first Stanwood team. The Bulldog defense was led by some stellar performances by Kaden Sokol and Joaquin Lucatero. Stanwood tried all night to move the ball on the ground with a 2 headed rushing attack, but the Bulldogs stood up to the challenge and made big plays when needed, forcing 4 Turnovers (3 INT, 1 Blocked Punt and 3 4th Down stops). The offense was steady on the ground with Diego Salaz running hard and a short passing game to the outside with many WRs chipping in. Big plays down the field from Jay Davis and Henley Lopez helped open up the running lanes and the Bulldogs took advantage. The win helps Mount Vernon secure 2nd place in the 3A WESCO North and Week 10 round of 32 Berth in the State Playoffs! Prep Football Mount Vernon 29, Oak Harbor 22 The Bulldogs scored with under a minute to go in the game to seal the victory over the Wildcats on Thursday night in this WESCO 3A North division game. While leading 21-14 late in the 4th quarter, Mount Vernon gave up what would be the game tying TD. However, Oak Harbor went for the win with a successful 2 point conversion to take the lead 22-21. That didn’t matter as the Bulldogs marched down the field to score the game winning TD on a 3 yard power run by Senior running back Diego Salaz. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 5-1 on the year. They play again next Friday in a highly anticipated game against the undefeated Sedro-Woolley Cubs in what could be a battle for 1st place atop the WESCO 3A North Division. It was a rough night offensively but we continually found ways to move the ball, and in the end Win!”

Prep Football Mount Vernon 42, Ferndale 33 The Mount Vernon Bulldogs get back on the winning track in a 3A WESCO Conference win over Ferndale. The air attack of the Bulldogs was on full display with Jay Davis’ 4 touchdown receptions from Kaiden Anderson. Diego Salaz balanced out the offensive attack with some hard running for 134 yards on the ground. “Big win for the Bulldogs! Moves us to 2-0 in league with some home league games approaching. The tone was set at the opening kickoff when Kaiden Sokol returned the opening kickoff 96 yds for a TD,” said Mount Vernon head coach Jake Whitman @jakewhitman .
